Default Civic 1996 Fuel Gauge Issue.

Salam guys, ok heres my problem, my fuel gauge always acts weird, and its now beginning to really annoy me, cuz i was left standing on the road and my car had no fuel but the guage was a little above E, which normally means you still have around 8-10L left. So i go to the petrol pump, bring fuel in a bottle and fill it up like 4-5 L, but still the friggin gauge needle does not move and still the needle is at the exact same point which is over E, but its starts fine again, and runs 45kms, but the friggin needle doesn't move its like stuck. People told me its the fuel sensor device, I REPLACED IT, THEN THEY TOLD ME ITS THE FUEL PUMP, I REPLACED IT, NOW THEY TELL ME ITS THE FUEL TANK( cuz it had a dent before and i took it to a denter and he removed it), BUT I THINK ITS THE METER WHICH IS FAULTY, OR CAN IT BE BOTH? Basically the needle is not moving like it should normally Please Help Experts Although I know that if i change my fuel tank completely and the meter aswell, the problem will end, but i wanna give it one last shot k kaam saste mei hojae by knowing the exact problem..

The gauge acts weird when you leave your car with parking lights on. It goes to full position if the car is parked, switch off and parking lights on.
Other than that, the gauge should work fine

@hash4u I know brother its not very accurate but mine is inaccurate off the limits, i searched on many forums and everyone has written that its the fault of the sending unit, but I already changed that, I mean I totally cant rely on the needle even for guessing purposes.
@Haroon_Tarar Yes but the issue with mine is the needle is not moving at all, once in a blue moon it suddenly moves lol, otherwise its the same position everyday.
@racerali Yes bro Ive already changed the sending unit, yeah ill only change the fuel gauge, Thanks, Ill change and let you guys know if it solved anything.

Did you check the wiring too? Check if there is a good ground and check for good connections from sending unit to the gauge.

These are some excerpts taken from 96-00 civic manual, if you follow them carefully you can identify the problem easily.

First check the ground point G552 as indicated in the following picture. As your car is RH this point will be exactly on the other side of the car but still beneath the driver seat next to the trunk/fuel lid release levers.

Civic 1996 Fuel Gauge Issue -1381507

This ground point is shared by both fuel pump and fuel gauge sending unit.

Civic 1996 Fuel Gauge Issue -1381511

If you can't easily access this point as it is below the floor carpet then ignore it for the time being and proceed to the tests given below.
These tests include checking and verifying the following:
    a. wiring integrity
    b. required voltages
    c. fuel gauge in the main cluster
    d. fuel sending unit itself

Civic 1996 Fuel Gauge Issue -1381508
Civic 1996 Fuel Gauge Issue -1381509
Civic 1996 Fuel Gauge Issue -1381510

Please respond back only when you go through all these tests. You only require a multimeter for these tests.

Finally solved it!!! @supraman2jz @aamirq @ToxicDevil @hash4u @Haroon_Tarar @racerali took a little time though but solved. Thanks for all your valuable suggestions, @shabbir.1 the ground wiring was a mess! had it done again! but the main problem turned out to be my fuel gauge and my fuel tank!

My fuel gauge was faulty when the electrician was moving the sensor manually the needle wasn't going up and was acting weird, sometimes it would go up then come down, so i replaced the gauge.

Secondly My fuel tank had a dent and at it was precisely just below where the float sensor was, causing the sensor to bend, making it unable to read the fuel level. These float type of sensors in old civics need to be at the exactly right place to give a accurate reading. So i asked the denter to take out the dent from the fuel tank, adjusted the sensor to its original form and position and Alhamdullilah the gauge is showing the correct reading now

Congrats man! Did you change the guage on the cluster? Where did you get the guage from? I'm looking for one and most sellers have the full cluster for sale, no one's willing to seperate only the fuel guage.
