Default Help Civic Prosmetic 2003 - Engine Overheating and Water Level in Radiator drops

As in the title. Yesterday i was driving around and saw the Temp goes all the way up.. I immediately stopped the car and let it cool down then i top up the water (normally i got collant in there) . After cooling down and topping up the water the car was fine. In the morning i checked the radiator again and water level dropped not much as yesterday but it dropped . I filled up the water and the Reserve drove around and then i checked again and the water level dropped again.. During the drive today once i saw the Temperature went up to 75% almost. Again I parked the car in shade and let it cool down (didn't top up the water ) Started the car and the temp leve was at 50% middle..

I got some one to check it he is saying may be the gasket is gone but how can i make sure ? and where can i get a proper gasket and cost ?

i have recently overhauled my civic vti to solve the heating and oil burning problem. For changing the gasket you will have to open up all the engine and the mechanic will not only stick to the gasket. As the head will be open he will advise you to change other things as well, water pump timing belt, head facing, piston and rings condition. here is the link of my thread i have tried my best to give finincial details of my cars iverhaul project i hope that it will give you an idea of the expenditure

When the temperature rise confirm the cars AC was on? Had a small issue with myself n turned out to be that the fan was not turning on due to some loose connection. Get the connection checked and as for reducing water, do u see any water below the car in the morning?

I recently got the AC serviced and the overheating issue happened 2 days after .. and Yes the AC was on when the over heating happens.

But I can hear the fan running so I am not sure .. and i know the fan is not direct .. but i feel the engine vibrating . the mechanic was saying it because it missing and the Gasket needs to be replaced ...

Check the fan connection before spending money. Just give it a try. 100-200 wont matter much but if it works it will save thousands. I had the same issue turned out that when i had my radiator serviced the guy accidentally loosened the connection which created a great fuzz for me on my way to peshawar so imagine travelling for more than 1 n a half hour without AC on motorway in june-july

    1. Make sure you don't have stuck thermostat valve
    2. Make sure you get same voltage at fan connector as on battery
    3. If you have coolant then if gasket failed you should get white smoke in exhaust
    4. Check dipstick the oil should be clear. If you have creamy colour it means you got water in engine oil.

Check these and report back for next steps

1 & 2. I dont know how to do that .. I will get the mechanic to check it
    3. There is no smoke at all.
    4. I use the Caltex Engine oil and the I don't see much difference in color. when i wipe the dipstick on a tissue its like brown in color Oirl was changed like 3K before .. The oil on the drip stick does drip when I take it out so i am not sure is it because of water or if this is normal.

i would strongly recommend you to visit a mechanic as for such type of issues, its always better to see it in real and not give/take ideas from comments.

Better check the connections, may be any fan relay is faulty or any timing is out. get the radiator checked with the thermostat valve plus all the pipes.

I got the fan checked and things were OK. in the end I ended up getting the Gasket Replaced .

    One Question ?

Does the Coolant level in Radiator in the hot weather go down ? Is this normal ?

    Are you running on CNG?

Gaskets can leak from alot of places and not always do all the classic symptoms appear. If the engine was misfiring, check the plugs might have given you some idea... an overly clean of the pact or the one with some rust is usually the one causing problems...Since you got it changed, i hope u replaced it with the oem metal one and had the tstat and fan to factory spec.
