    Default reborn 2009 problem

so here is how it goes:

was coming home last week....was using ac car was fine reached a frnds home car was on without ac ...then i sat in its temperature rose an extra dot aobve normal i drove it some meters and one more dot rose to which i switched it off and cooled it up checked up water and all water was a bit less filled it went home with ac all perfect....then sat in it again used the car for many kms arnd 5o with ac everything was perfect....but when i was coming bk home i wasnt using ac the temp rose extra dot again to which i switched on ac that it may cool it down but it rose two more dots this time ,by that time i was home i just parked the car let it cool down....what i noticed that fan wasnt turning on which it did on ac which it is suppose to do but not without ac ...then it was literaly out of water almost when i checked the water in morning the next day....i started filling water with 1.5 litre bottle and i poured four of them and still it wasnt getting completely filled then i noticed water leaking from a steel pipe behind the header at a slow rate so i took the car to inh with ac on but it was just a day before eid and they said mechanics are gone so took it to myother mechanic who checked and changed that pipe and everything...fan started working aswell without ac so went for home but on my way home it heated again a dot to which i parked and saw a leak form the end of pipe at a very slow rate switchd on ac went home parked car went for eid at fslbd...came bk aftr four days took out the car went to mechanic who stopped the small leak went again to my route...stopped and checked for fan it wasnt working i thought maybe hasnt attained the recquired temperature so i started driving again and after many kms i saw a rose in temperature of one dot to which i stopped and the fan was still off....waited few mins checked for water everything perfect started the car again went to mechanic and on the way stopped and now fan was working but still i went tomechanic who checked but the fan was workingperfectly then aswell...so i kept on using and all was perfect until i reached near home where i saw an increaase in dot again....fan was again off...parked it used it at nyt fan was working no temp problem...used it yesterday aswell fan was working and no temp problem used it arnd 60 kms yesterday....this is the story i dont know it will do it again or not and i dont know what to check to make sure it doesnt do such again

Your Radiator Fan's relay could be faulty....some times it engages sometimes it doesnt...
Faced the same fan problem on friends cultus....checked everything but couldnt find anything wrong and problem remaind....finally out of nowhere idea came... removed the relay and knocked it lightly few times....and problem was gone....

Dont know where would it be located in Civic 09 but in City it is located in main fuse box in engine bay along with other relays....if you need a new one it wont cost much either...less than 500 most probably...you can try changing that too...but that is just one prospect.... issue could be of temperature sensor too...that would be expensive ....

But one thing can be almost 100% sure...if no wire is broken and fan is ok..which i think is as it does run... then issue could be only with these two things...

Relay has two circuits...primary and secondry...when current is applied to the primary circuit it closes the secondry circuit allwoing the current to flow...load is connected to this secondry circuit...under normal circumstances when applying current to primary wires...secondry circuit should pass current....but in your case when some times fan works and sometime it dont...maybe this method would not give you reliable results....you can try but try finding another relay, use it and see results...if problem is rectified...then that means relay is faulty...

in relay box there would be many relays...you can also try interchanging some non critical relay with radiator fan relay...like that of ac fan..and keep ac off till your test is complete...

Relays and wires are only thing that you can check by yourself or from any low tech mechanic....if no problem is found there better take it to some reputable mechanic or good 3S dealer....could be the issue with water pump..maybe it is not building enough pressure or head gasket. Improper Mobil oil circulation could also cause car to heat up as oil also helps in removing heat from the engine....this could be due to choked or bad oil filter

There could be many other reaaons...like faulty T valve(maybe it is not opening fully when car heats up causing restriction in water flow)...etc

it happened exactly same to me with civic 2008, but i kept ignoring, till i came to know, engine is not as good as it was earlier, i kept on filling water then i changed radiator, and t valve with original radiator cap, and it started behaving normal, u better bring it to honda, and let them diagnose, or change it all, including pipes, because once they are punctured, or has leakage, means other is also not good, because pressure developed inside, after changing these items, go for honda coolant, and specific one prescribed in your owners manual........
