Thread: Help ...Honda Civic 1997 Alternator Problem ..Its not starting

    Default Help ...Honda Civic 1997 Alternator Problem ..Its not starting

    One day my car began to give a humming sound with a rough drive the very next day the battery was dead no power at all. I left the car in tge garage like that for a week cause of rains. Today when I tried to jump start the car without removing the old battery I tried to start the car I just got the clicking sound but it wasnt starting properly it started but when I removed the cables the engine stopped.
    Tried again jump starting but it failed.
    Then I started it with ups batteries wich were connected together. The car started in half self. Now no humming sound but every thing seemed to be over powered. but when I removed the cable again dead.
    so is the battery consuming all of the current as it failed to start by normal jumping. or its the bad alternator that is sucking the current. or the self .As the battery was totally dry when I checked it. what can be the problem. whats the price of a civic 97 alternator the car is engine wise superb.

    read on the net ..I think the alternator is parsitically draining the battery dry..

    how much expenditure will that be. I think it also damaged the battery will be geting a dry one now. how much doea a kabli alternator cost any idea

    if u removed the battery terminal while car running, there are great chances that ur alternator died cause of that, it may also harm other electrical systems

    If any problem comes in alternator, the battery indicator light will light up in cluster after starting the car and off until you check the alternator.

    1.Is battery light is glowing after starting the car or not? It will show that any problem comes in alternator?

    2.Is battery indicator is light up when you open the switch and should off after starting the car immediately?

    The Failure of alternator would stop the charging of battery and battery suck by continuous ignitions.

    Simple the alternator has failed. Get it checked........also compare the repair charges with replacement alternator.

    today I towed my car to the workshop. the checked it and removed the alternator. The mechanic told me the alternator is short it was all dirty and black. He brought a kabli generator of some imported honda engine. it was just like new. and he said it has more amperes and a higher cut of point . it costed me 4500. the battery was all sucked up it didnt crank at first then he charged it . it seems to be week. will be geting a dry battery soon. every thing else is working superb . car is feeling more lighter and pick has increased.

    In ISB/RWP, the original alternator for this engine has cost max Rs.3000 not more then that. First charge the new battery and then placed in car and after that check that alternator is charging the battery.

    Also check that battery indicator is working correctly, this is very important because if any problem related to battery or alternator the battery indicator will come on during driving.

    If you dont get a battery indication on key on then check the main or charge fuse in the fuse box - if the alternator is not getting any key on power - then it cannot excite and start charging.

    If you get power to the IG pin in the alternator and no lamp output then the regulator maybe shot, Under no circumstances should you ever remove the battery wires as the engine runs as it can also fry the ECU in some cases.

    cheked all the fuses alternator got fried after 17 years of service ..every thing back to normalcy after I drove it for an hour ...half self start once again ...

    it has more amperes and was removed from an engine repaired ones were also available under 3k.

    I think it is better to get a bosch alternator when you change it. I wonder if those are available here

    I got mine from some newer honda engine iam satisfied..and my battery survived this ordeal

    well I didnt look at the engine codes, but I noticed a difference in the pulley size of the alternator. The size of the pulley was smaller than the stock one.
