Thread: Civic 95 engine swap

    Default Civic 95 engine swap

    Dear members.

    So I have a weak stock carby D15 installed in my car, and after the gasket is gone 2nd time, the mechanic has proposed that I change the engine. As for the mechanic, he is considered quite reliable in the market.

    Now since the engine needs to be changed, I am thinking to jump to D15b dual vtec. I talked to the mechanic's engine guy in shershah, and he says engine with wiring and ecu for 70k.

    Considering your experiences, please guide me if thats a worthy option, and/or give suitable suggestions. Will it increase the resale value of the car, or devalue it? From what I think, the value will be increased of the car, but to those who know the potential of the dual vtec (correct me if im wrong).

    The guy also gave below options.

    1. D15b non vtec for 55k
    2. some efi engine (probably d15b non vtec) which will be combined with current carburetor in some way (if I head him correctly). Dont exactly recall the price for this option.

    Looking forward for expected assistance. Also let me know if maintenance costs will increase with vtec.

    So I finally visited Vicky today for the checkup. Sensors seem to be working; he checked some voltages, but after finding out there is no DCL port, he would work any further on the car

    How can i install DCL port in the wiring? Is it easily available? and from where? What would be the cost?

    Further, I have EG6 cluster now which has CEL option. How to get that light working; I mean which wires need to be present and from where on ECU it will come to the cluster?

    Would I need to change any wiring harness inside the car?

    Its dlc bro .... U have to change the wiring for that , my advice if u r going for that change, go for a 16 pin obd2 wiring , dlc is obselete now

    oh yea DLC!

    By wiring change, you mean complete engine harness? Isnt that you going to cost a fortune?

    All i need is a port to give out codes. and in the cheapest possible way.

    What about the CEL light? How can i have that installed? is it a single wire coming out from the ECU to the cluster?

    This receipt was emailed to me from Japan. That "1" is actually Yen symbol, obviously not in the best handwriting.

    Its possible the customs here considered that as 12000 :/

    Well i guess its too late to do anything about it. I already forgot about it. Thanks for bringing it up and remind me of the loss

    What tell them that its clearly mention on receipt that total value is 2000 yen who apointed such jerks anyway

    I tried asking about the duty from the guy who delivered. He said i need to pay duty or he will take it back...which of course I didnt want!

    Any update regarding your Swap?? your Vtec are engaging now ?? and what is total cost for this swap.

    Yes vtecs are engaging after i had the speed sensor changed (no speedo = no vtec)

    Car is running alright. Acceleration is good too but only above 2k and above rpm. Having slow acceleration under 2k rpm especially with ac. Might be timing issue but i haven't had time to get it checked. Last time i went to the mechanic and asked him to check the timing, and he checked that car was idling fine so he said timing is okay. So i need to go to a different mechanic who would check everything and then confirm.

    Total cost depends on what other parts you want to change while swap is in progress, but it will cost you around 100k.

    No cng.
    Mileage on petrol on light foot is approx 10km/ltr with 70% ac usage. I feel this can improve. No tuning done on car yet.

    Is there any trouble after swap like jerking etc etc and how can i get speedo for this engine ?? Does this swap worth ... My current engine is 75% previous owner swaped it back in 2011 and its original carby engine... But recently my pully bolt broked inside crank and they repaired it... Mechanic told me this will work fine for small route but if u want to take the car for long routes so have to install new crank cost is between 15-17k and he told me if we open the chamber then have to replace other parts too so it wil be arround 35-45k total overhaul if engine is good from inside... He also suggest me to swap same engine but i want to run on petrol and 3 stage is alot ecnomical... So i will do it with in 2-3 month.

    No jerking. Make sure you get the wiring done from proper wiring guy, even if you have to tow the car far away to get it done. Or better get the swap done from a place where both swap and wiring is done.

    You can get overhauled it will cost you total around 40k at most. If you plan to keep the car for long and have "shauq" of the 3 stage, only then go for swap. Otherwise its just too much expense for just fixing the car.

    Well i will keep car for atleast 3-4 years as i dnt have any plans to change the car... It it dont make trouble and it will last long for atleast 3-4 years then im ready.
