    Default Civic 2005 Acceleration Sound

My civic 2005 Exi(55k driven) is generating a little strange acceleration sound/noise for last two months whenever accelerator is pressed gently or hard. Its like a 'delayed' or 'timedout' acceleration sound(though not sharp or irritating) but slightly 'different'. I went to honda 3s today and they diagnosed it as a power steering pump fault and it needs an overhaul.
My question is whether they are diagnosing it correctly. Any experience?

inspect power steering feed pipe for vibrations... if the pump is noisy, u will actually feel the vibration.

Next - open the reservoir bottle cap and turn the steering lock to lock a few times...see if it helps...

Inspect oil level and see if there are any leaks... if ur using the original power steering oil (honda's which is transparent) , u can replace it with the same oil.

what is the oil level in pump? open the cap and do you see bubbles? You did not tell if this sound comes while NOT turning steering?

Normally power steering pump does not requires overhauling util unless there is oil leakage from its seals. I think your car PS pump is making noise due to worn out bearing. Anyhow, how much charges Honda 3S workshop told you for pump overhaul because if they are asking too much then it is better to change it from Bilal Gunaj market for only Rs 4000 and Rs 500 for mechanic job. Furthermore, PS pump also makes noise if its return oil pipe is leaky which sucks air and causing bubbles in oil reservoir bottle and humming noise produces. Another reason is that if you recently changed the PS pump supply rubber flexible high pressure pipe with a local made pipe which is harder than the original/genuine pipe then you will hear a humming sound. Change the pipe with good kabli pipe from Bilal Gunaj. Always change the power steering oil with fresh oil after two years as this will increase the life of power steering pump.

If its bearing then there is no need to get a different pump just remove the circlip behind the bearing and pull out the the shaft and bearing after fixing the pump or pulley in vice . Then change the bearing and reinstall the shaft back install circlip and pulley and u are done
