Default Hi-Octane giving significantly better average than regular

Hi guys - Just thought I'd share something in order to put it out there for opinions and feedback: learnt, during a discussion with my Director the other day, that he was having a hard time getting the average on his Honda City [2012/Aspire/1.5/Prosmatec] to go back to the 12/12.5 km per ltr that it had been giving him up until a few months ago.

He got it checked by the Honda authorised dealership a number of times to no avail, and was finally told by one bright spark over there that he should fill her up with Hi-Octane in order to get a better average, the reason being that the quality of regular has gone significantly down ever since the dramatic price reductions.

Well, he did that, and his average went back up to 12.5!

So I decided to try the same with my 6th Gen Civic [2000/EXI] and what do you know, it actually has evidently increased! While my needle would drop down to half a tank by the time I'd run 150 to 160 on regular, it reached half at 214 on Octane.

Has anybody else experienced something similar?

This is exactly what i have been telling people. Fuel quality sux in Pakistan.
I had the problem of knocking in my 660cc alto.
    Mechanic advised to add hi-octane.
My average in one tank was 475 in the start. It dropped to 425 and even 415 at some points.
I started using hi-octane and now in winters even got 496.4kms in a 30 liter tank.
Hi-Octane is the way to go. Other fuels suck.
Now the car runs smoother, it gives way better mileage and does not knock at all.
actually the regular fuel we get has low octane rating.
engines with higher compression ratio tend to favor higher octane rating.
All hondas, swift, japanese imports and german cars have high compression ratios.

If i fill my 7th gen civic with high octane and i get 8.5 kmpl!

I was getting 8.5 kmpl on regular petrol as well... !!

People getting higher averages on HOBC should try Total pumps.... Parco refines 89-90 RON fuel

so.. what about cost per km.. is it lower in Hioctane, or with regular fuel,
people who use Highbeams.. once day would suffer too bigtime. People who drive slow on fast lanes, remember one day a vehicle carryin ur son, dad might get late to hospital coz people like u. underaged driving will land u in bigtime trouble one day or the other.. And the Blue indication light on ur speedometer denotes "High Beams"

My 91 lancer gives 1~1.5 km/l extra when add ~30 hi-octane in it.
The car is almost 10K since the last tuning was done. But everything is OK with starting, average, etc. and hence am keep running it without tuning.
Once its done 15K, then I will ask mechanic to clean plugs, tappets, etc. The reason is that I mix HOBC regularly with normal petrol.
