Default Honda Civic 98 auto transmission issues

A friend of mine has 98 automatic civic, Problem he is facing is the vibration and
rpm fluctuation after or just before gear shift in low rpm.

When a throttle is given everything becomes normal, but yet appears if the rpm is stationary
while cruising and the car is about to change the gear.

I personally think its a liner solenoid valve as the shift lock solenoid valve found on top of gear
seems to be ok and car is switching gear.

Does it happen in both upshift and downshift on all the shifts? Or just a particular gear?

Try putting the car in D2 and see if it happens in 2nd gear. Similarly in 3rd.

your car has hydraulic gearbox - if its trying to hunt for a gear and jerks then most probably there is debris in the intake filter or the regulating valve body is sticking.

both situations require full teardown of gearbox - no other way to repair honda automatic.

those solenoid valves are only for torque converter lockup

I would never suggest that on automatic gearbox, ATF itself is a very powerful detergent, it will clean out stuff itself. But if the gearbox is so far gone to have worn out clutch deposits packing the intake filter of the pump.

    Overhaul the box.
