Question Upgrading from 8th to 9th Gen Civic

    Dear All,
    Please suggest.
Shall I upgrade from 8th gen to 9th Gen
Currently I have 2012 model 8th gen Oriel Prosmatic and I can afford 2012-2013 Model 9th gen oriel Prosmatic.
Is it worth it or not.

    Things to Compare:

    • Interior
    • Exterior
    • Fuel Economy
    • Motor way Driving
    • City Driving

Experts and experienced people who have upgraded are requested to help me in making my decision.
    Thanks

I do have the 9th gen civic since 1 1/2 years so I can comment on that
It is a fine car.......no issues with it whatsoever. running advan db 205/65/15. Driven till 188 on motorway, the car does feel a little light but it's stable. No vibrations etc. The car is tail happy though, go into any turn at excess speeds and the car tends to tail out. Happened with me quite a few times. corolla has this tendency too. dunno if the 8th gen has it or not.
Rest, well, no complains from it whatsoever. Satisfied with it.
8th gen is not tail happy. It's very stable at corners

Have driven both and have kept 2 9th gens so far. While people do swear by 8th gen's handling & grip, to me it's not the sole qualifier. Do you often travel on motorway? Do you cross 170 every now & then? Alhamdulillah, I haven't found any issues with with a 9th gen routinely maintained and running on branded rubber. Both 8th & 9th gen are 1.8L fwd 4 door FAMILY sedans & should be driven like one too. For all the need for speed fans out here, please invest in an Integra or Celica while still being practical. I will put this grip & handling issue at rest here & try to provide feedback in the headings you mentioned as per my personal experience:

    Interior:
The interior is driver centric, one feels more in command. Though every car grows on you & seems like Business As Usual in a couple of months, I still feel a lot of joy looking at so many clusters, lights & screens. The 8th gen's fuel gauge & hot/cold meter looks pixelated & outdated compared to 9th gen's. It feels like a cockpit to me but hey that's just me. The i-Mid screen coupled with the car settings is a welcome change. One can choose color schemes, auto lock and auto lights off timer functions etc. The steering controls are snappy & the cruise control manages to give 16kmpl mileage on long route(speed 120-125). The driver seat comes with height adjustment but overall, I find the seats lacking shape. City's seats feel more contoured to me.

    Exterior:
Best feature for me is unarguably the projector lamps. The cut-off is sharp & the range is great plus, it's more HID friendly while also being safe to incoming traffic. Though I find the front end a bit boring, I totally dig the rear end. Throw in a body kit & it looks spectacular. Ride height suits urban & rural roads. 8th gen would make me uneasy on the speed breaks sometimes. The fog lights are plain stupid, they provide no visibility what so ever. Pathetic job by Honda, I'll see if there is an option to turn up the light beam. Sitting inside, I can feel their presence but can't see what are they illuminating. HIDs didn't help either.

    Motorway Driving:
Already discussed above. Would again like to mention cruise control feature. Put car in economy mode, select speed & engage cruise control & its a breeze then...My heel doesn't hurt on long journeys anymore. Haven't driven a manual nor would I prefer owning one due to 70km driving everyday, the prosmatec doesn't feel sluggish. Floor it, the car accelerates like a champ. However, don't expect to teach Audis or Mercs a lesson on motorway. I'm sure 8th gen is a bit more snappy compared to 9th gen on motorway plus the grip is an added advantage. I did feel the rear end swaying slightly on my previous car at speeds above 165. However, it was running 30k km old EuroStars. My current car rides on Continental CC5 and I haven't felt any 'grip' issues at the same speeds so far Alhamdulillah.

    City Driving:
I always wanted to keep an 8th gen, throw in a Mugen RR body kit, a screaming Mugen spoiler and drop it on 17s. My dream could never materialize because even the stock prosmatec variant would suck when it comes to economy. My daily drive from Pindi to office is Isb amounts to 70km and I can't afford a car giving single digit mileage. Among PKDM 1.8L cars, the best power vs economy compromise is 9th gen though I have heard nice comments on the new cvti grande as well. However, I haven't experienced running it from my own pocket. The car gives me 12.8km+ on tank to tank with AC on in summers. It gets even better in winters(personal urban best is 13.7 so far). I don't use economy mode though, it feels underpowered, sluggish and stupid(use it only with cruise control). The mileage obviously gets worse in severe start/stop traffic but since Mar 2013, I have never hit below 11.6kmpl figure. I daily hit 120 on Isb Expressway though

    Personal Opinion:
If resale doesn't bug you and you want 'change', I say go for it. You won't lose sleep over letting go of your 8th gen. The 9th gen feels slightly more tech savvy too.

If however, you're planning to get rid of the car soon, I would suggest to steer away from both 8th and 9th gens. Civics are already facing a tough time due to landslide sales & demand for corolla and the 10th gen upgrade isn't too far away in to the future either. Prices will further slump down near and post 10th gen launch.

Lastly, you will hear a lot of Pros & Cons here. At the end, a man gotta decide on his own. We can only share experiences. I believe your 8th gen is one of the best in Pakistan but 'If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies'.

    Break a leg!
    What goes around, comes around.

And its a matter of personal prefernce and choice
No doubt 8th gen is the best Civic ever assembled here
That doesnt mean 9th gen is bad
9th gen just lacks that punch and the so called " Civic " factor
8th gen has all the style and beauty but 9th gen is better for our local bad and broken roads
It is something like a Corolla with lil bit of driving pleasure but lacks the driving pleasure Civic used have in all prev gens 6th 7th and 8th

I kept both Civics side be side for sometime around 1.5 month
Initially after spending so much on the new one i was in denial ( i knew 8th gen was better for me but still the sum of 25 lacs forced me to think and believe its a worthy upgrade ) my heart was telling me to sell 9th gen and keep 8th gen but then later i disposed off the 8th gen since i got a really nice offer and around 2 lacs above the market price so i sold it
The 1st day when I brought 9th gen home i was loving it
The new features like imid display eco button and the smooth and soft drive of new civic really impressed me something i never expected from a civic
But then next day when i was going to college in the morning i decided to take 8th gen with since 9th gen wasnt insured
The moment i sat in the car 8th gen i said to myself
" What the Hell Ahmed ! Seriously , you just spent 25 lacs on a similar thing , this thing gives almost same feel "
    Then i was getting late
I did overspeeding that day and drove at breakneck speed
Took some sharp turns at even 80 km/h
Man what a road grip this car has
The 9th gen will flip over 2 times if you try to do this in it ...

Khair its like a love story
I always had a crush with most of the cars i kept or have
But 8th gen is like true love ...

Anyways here is my analysis for daily routine drive

    8th gen over 9th gen

    Its a gem
    A pure gorgeous beauty
    Better styling
    Better acceleration ( 8th gen is 1.8 seconds faster from 0 to 100 )
Much Better road grip at higher speeds , 9th gen feels so light and like a 9th gen corolla after 120
    Better handling at corners
    Better interior plastics and finishing
That curvy multiplex meter and dash layout looks better and attractive than 9th gen civic
    Rear reading lights
    Better side mirror indicator design
Lovely seating position literally gives a feel as if lait k gari chala rahay ho aap
    Dual exhaust finisher
A great handbrake design and placement i like it
    A great road presence
Its purely a Man's car as fouad bhai once said

    9th gen over 8th gen

    New shape
A great car if you are status conscious ( 99% of the ppl just change 8th gen becoz of this factor )

    Better fuel economy
Soft and extremely comfortable seats ( non leather version )
    Better visibility
Much much better road clearance just like a Corolla
    I mid display
    Auto off headlights
    Remote trunk opener
    Climate control
    Cruise control
Better and a bit soft suspension as compared to 8th gen 9th gen feels really soft and smooth however i had michelins in 9th gen and have euro stars in reborn may be thats the reason
More comfortable for our bad roads
Once i crossed a really rough and broken road infact it wasnt a road at 80 km/h
9th gen surely beats 8th gen here
    Solid and heavy doors

But you cant get best of both Worlds
Since 9th gen beats 8th gen in above mentioned aspects it lacks that " Civic Fun and punch "

I would adv save money for 10th gen Civic
I am sure it will be much better than 9th gen and 8th gen too
    Good Luck !
This post is from the heart.

9th generation is lighter so it is quicker and more fun to drive. It is also better in fuel economy. Plus the Econ button gives you the option of driving fast or with leisure.

BTW when do you expect 10th Gen to be launched in Pakistan? Before 2017-18?

Some say, Honda is more up to date with the Civic brand in Pakistan, usually launches within in year of international debut: so since it's launching this fall 2015 across the globe, according to previous trends we will get it in Pakistan by Fall 2016.
While some say, the 10th Gen Civic will be launched in 2017 as City is being launched in 2016 therefore Honda Atlas will not give 2 new models in one year.

I hope you have not sold your 8th and gone for the 9th since the 10th is more than worth the wait. I'm seriously looking forward to sell my 9th and prepare for 10th

I hope you have not sold your 8th and gone for the 9th since the 10th is more than worth the wait. I'm seriously looking forward to sell my 9th and prepare for 10th
