    Default Problem: Civic Exi 2005 (D15Y3) Non Vtec to (D17A) Vtec Swap

    Dear Pakwheelers, Its been around three months since i've been looking for a Non VTEC swap for my Manual Exi 2005. As expected, It has been a complete pain in @**. Apprently, Cant find a decent NonVTEC engine assembly in rawalpindi. All decent aval engines are VTEC from half cuts. All kabarias suggesting: "Sir VTEC dalwa lain, wiring / ECU ke baghair b behtereen chalta hai". Which sounds completely baseless. I dont want any major power gain. Just a decent running engine. Reading up on Non VTEC to VTEC swap has me left in a state of confusion as I am a complete NOOB to engine swaps. Presently, I am getting a D17A Vtec JDM (assembly only). What valueable input I need from senior Pakwheelers is:

    1. Is (D15Y3)Non VTEC to (D17A) VTEC Swap successful / feasible.
    2. What all things (wiring harness, ECU, intake / exhaust manifolds, sensors etc) will I need other than D17A assembly for a successful swap, whereby I get a proper VTEC engaging engine and no CELs.
    3. Will my manual tranny be compatible with new assymbly and ECUs.
    4. Any workshop in Rawalpindi/ Islamabad which can carry out this wiring / swap successfully without too much problems.
    5. If I do get the assembly only, will there be a worthwhile decrease in performance if VTEC solenoid is not connected. I've read that engine would be running on 12 valves only ( if VTEC doent KICK IN YO)

    I hope this isnt too much. Your kind experience / suggestions are most eagerly awaited.

    Get the VTEC one its more worthy than the Non-VTEC one. Price tag of both will be the same imo, all extra things which will be needed are uncut harness and ECU which wont cost you a lot cuz ur buying all in the shape of a package and installing it in your car wont be a mess. Just put the engine inside and replace the old harness with the new uncut harness and plug-in the ECU under your DashBox. They are saying it right the VTEC one is much better but dont use it with the old wiring and ECU cuz it will turn on the check light.

    @Waqas

    if you need D15 assembly , from fresh import engine can be made available

    but if you are looking for D17 swap

    then its a good swap ... i have done it for a customer in 2003 civic .. it has no issue and runs as fine as any other engine

    for this swap you can use your EXI gear as well ..it works fine with it ...very small difference in gear ratios ...

    even same axles are used so its like factory swap .... mounts n stuff

    you will need complete engine as you mentioned the parts name ..

    Thanks a lot for the input guys.
    Engine still inside half cut. Getting head and block assembly with complete harness and ecu. Just worried about sensors such as O2 and knock etc. I guess this VTEC is tricky business. If someone would be kind enough to name major parts that are essential for this swap other than assembly, harness and ecu. What about transmission compatibility with ecu. Coz ecu is for auto and mine is MT.

    Swap transmission as well to avoid hassle and pain/tension

    I used D17A with D16W9 transmission but it was a Prosmatic transmission and the only difference I felt was the gears became somehow long ratio, not saying a big difference but to some extent. But yours is a manual so it wont be an issue. You can mate your current gear cuz the engine generation is the same, just a different variant.
