Thread: Problem: Civic Exi 2005 (D15Y3) Non Vtec to (D17A) Vtec Swap

    Default Problem: Civic Exi 2005 (D15Y3) Non Vtec to (D17A) Vtec Swap

    Dear Pakwheelers, Its been around three months since i've been looking for a Non VTEC swap for my Manual Exi 2005. As expected, It has been a complete pain in @**. Apprently, Cant find a decent NonVTEC engine assembly in rawalpindi. All decent aval engines are VTEC from half cuts. All kabarias suggesting: "Sir VTEC dalwa lain, wiring / ECU ke baghair b behtereen chalta hai". Which sounds completely baseless. I dont want any major power gain. Just a decent running engine. Reading up on Non VTEC to VTEC swap has me left in a state of confusion as I am a complete NOOB to engine swaps. Presently, I am getting a D17A Vtec JDM (assembly only). What valueable input I need from senior Pakwheelers is:

    1. Is (D15Y3)Non VTEC to (D17A) VTEC Swap successful / feasible.
    2. What all things (wiring harness, ECU, intake / exhaust manifolds, sensors etc) will I need other than D17A assembly for a successful swap, whereby I get a proper VTEC engaging engine and no CELs.
    3. Will my manual tranny be compatible with new assymbly and ECUs.
    4. Any workshop in Rawalpindi/ Islamabad which can carry out this wiring / swap successfully without too much problems.
    5. If I do get the assembly only, will there be a worthwhile decrease in performance if VTEC solenoid is not connected. I've read that engine would be running on 12 valves only ( if VTEC doent KICK IN YO)

    I hope this isnt too much. Your kind experience / suggestions are most eagerly awaited.

    Nope the case isn't different at all, all the 7th generation engines are inter-changeable to each others, you can mate a manual gear to a D17A as well as an Auto. OP has stated he is keeping the gearbox and going to swap head and assembly so it wont be an issue.

    Nothing else is needed except for the new VTEC harness and ECU, rest all the mounts, axles and each and everything will remain the same. I didnt notice before u live in rwp and Rozzzz is quite near to u, he can do a swap for u!

    dont worry thats not much of trouble .. sensors can be diagnosed and corrected

    you are getting exi assembly or D17 ?

    I am getting jdm D17A (vtec) with ecu and harness....

    Checked the engine on dry port, straight out of the container on tuesday..Got the swap today...Jdm D15B.. Engine seems in extremely good condition, as clean as a whistle.jdm oil was still inside..luckily mileage chit was pasted on the engine..around 92000 km, so I know what to expect...
    Got everything engine, wiring and ecu. Using own M/T.
    Only hiccup was the Jdm CVT tranny, as the jdm ecu was throwing CEL with my manual tranny...
    Electrician saying PKDM VTI manual ecu will work..so looking for that..code PLL-D02. Presently using own own previous ecu, so VTEC not engaging..but still can feel the quality of this new engine...
