    Question D15b Head Swap.

Initially I Planned for B16 Swap in my Civic 1995. After skimming through the Market couldn't get a good engine for reasonable price. I am running D15b (EXI) Carbi converted right now. I am planning to swap the head and Convert it to D15B 3 stage Vtec. Is it possible?? How may I proceed??
Plz give other possible options. I actually want a reasonable Performance car that run on cng as well. Is it possible to Swap an F18b to civic 95?? Whats the availability of this engine??

Thanx dear. My engine is not EXI. Its just the block D15b that i swaped as my stock block was cracked. I coverted it to carbi by using the stock D15b3 head. Yours must be D15b3. Not D16b3. D15b3 is under powered. And struggle on cng. I know it as i have used it. D15b all have same blocks but different Heads. Non Vtec efi, Single vtec efi, Dual vtec efi. Dual vtec is popular as it is xllent for economy as well as performance. Plz go through utube u ll c it touching 100 at less the 8 sec mark.
If head swaping is very very expensive then i ll go for complete 3stage vtec Swap.
But if its just little expensive and give remarkable results in terms of performace then i can afford it.

My suggestion would be to go for the complete d15b dual vtec engine swap. It would be a more reliable option and you would be steering away from pop-up problems in the future.

I have been running that motor for over a year, still get 12kmpl in the city to date (normal driving).

F18b is not a worthy option. The power gain is not that significant for the engine displacement. Plus there would be plenty of fabrication needed under the hood to get a clean conversion. Not worth it in my opinion. Consider the f20b as an alternative, investing in that motor would be a better choice.

yeah sorry i mistyped "d16b3" for "d15b3"... it is d15b3 stock... and on cng all cars performance drops but since it home used so not a big deal but have noted that consumption wise it milage bettr on petrol than CNG... petrol 8-9 km /ltre and cng 60 l 150-160km full per rs 700/- had servised kit but it was clean no problem with it...

Conversion from carby to EFI is something i will not recommend. At the end of the day the difference b/w complete swap and conversion will not be much also, there will be a considerable difference between performance of both options. If you can tell here how much you are willing to spend and what are your requirements (power, economy, both etc) then a suggestion can be given to you.

    Does F20b work with cng??
    I can spent nearly 100k.
Requirement is both performance with little economy. And cng compatible.

F20B alone costs more then 100K with tranny complete, F20B is 2 Liter type r motor. Get a complete D15B 3 stage and you can get everything sorted out in 80K with fitting etc.

It works with cng too, but why to use cng in it and mostly it is not available. High compression engines work better with cng. No it doesn't need hi octance i guess regular is okay with it i have ran F20B and H22 H23 on regular then why not B16

After going through most of the posts I would recommend you a complete swap with a D15 3 stage VTEC. Don't get stuck with conversions or old bigger engines! I've been there and done that on my 2003 VTi. You can easily find a D15b in good condition and it wont bug you with unnecessary problems in future as well. Good luck

I recently swapped to 3 stage vtec couple of months back. Still have several issues to sort out.

You will only be able to get the best fuel economy out of it when every component is in working order. As for me, I am getting around 7-8km/Ltr. No I am not flooring the pedal, and 85% of the time drive under 2000rpm, while 10% 2000-2500rpm, and 5% maybe above 3,000rpm.

3 stage vtec engine is quite good, but a PITA swap unless you are able to get every component working. You will need the best electrician who knows this engine inside out for the wiring, who will charge you approx 10k (excluding any sensors or parts required to be changed).

The total costs involved will go above 100k.

You can go through my thread for information: https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/civ...95-engine-swap

You can consider going for D15b non-vtec as well (if you want to covert to EFI). It will be a little underpowered, but less complicated.

Confusing comments gentlemen. Seems D15b dual vtec is either not a practical option. Should i go for single vtec or simple non vtec EXI engine?? Which D17 Fits to Dolphin without major surgical intervention?

Everyone has a different experience perhaps. I managed to sort a d15b dual vtec swap easily on my car. Fine tuning happened over the course of a week and after that no issues. Been running it for over a year now.

Anyhow if you are concerned, might as well go for something which is more up your comfort zone.
