Depends on how much green you have.....If you can place a cash limit and sequence these with respect to your interest i am sure it would be easier to suggest:-

What comes first and what comes last(Looks,Speed,Sound,Handling and [comment]).....

    Good luck with it

    @nowornever
If yuo are thinkof customizing your car, then Fuel economy should be the least of your concerns and least important of all. Coz you will need a lot of fuel to keep engine cool if you go the turbo way. I guess that is off your list, lol!

    Hello!
    keeping fuel effeciency in mind...!
change plugs wires and add big mouth muffler...
more than that.......its starts sucking some pure gasoline...!
    alwayz remember one rule..
when it comes to pure mods.........through away the fuel effeciency factor out of it...!
    if you wan't effeciency...........keep restricted
for getting something.....you have to looose something

Brother just add the following u will feel a difference.
1- Tuneup ur engine from a sensible mechanic.
    2- Add an air intake.
3- Put in Irridium Plugs preferably NGK.
4- Install 9+ mm Plug Wires.
5- Change the exhaust or if its not to be used by family so frequently go for 2.5'' down piping.
It will cost you about 12K. And best of luck wid ur mods.

it is not necessary for your fuel economy to go up unless you are putting some hardcore engine mod like a turbo etc.

a simple intake/header/catback will give you some gain without breaking the bank. dont expect too much though...the d16 motor is meant more for economy so it is not very responsive.

and i will not suggest iridium or platinum plugs since they are not recommended for low compression and non-high performance motors generally. there will be no added advantage...do your research on the plugs part...you will know.

best bet is to do what hash4u & wonder_guy said, but also upgrade your ignition and you'll see some good results. If you plan on going further i'd suggest an engine transplant (B16 or B18)

I beg to differ, by installing Intake/headers/exhaust(be catback or non) what do you think will happen? You are actually improving engine efficiency by allowing the engine to breath better. Meaning more air is able to go in the combustion chamber then normally, and more is being pushed out. So what do you think the ECU would do (more specifically in a Honda D16)?

I call these new ECUs the learners, they learn your driving habits and the evaluate engine air/fuel flows all the time and control engine so. So by doing the above mentioned mods, if you do not expect to increase fuel consumption, then my friend you are incorrect. You will increase fuel consumption but not to the extent of blowing up your life savings. And Honda D series engines are more responsive to such mods then the B-series due to more restriction in the D-series in the intake, and exhaust.

and i will not suggest iridium or platinum plugs since they are not recommended for low compression and non-high performance motors generally. there will be no added advantage...do your research on the plugs part...you will know.

Again we are not on the same wavelength, Turbo engines are low compression engines with ratio of close to 8:1 and D-series has CR of 9.3:1-9.5:1. So they are not considered low compression.
