Default Civic Guru's need your attention please

    Hi Pakwheelers,
I own a 6th Gen 97 model honda civic Automatic,
i was having a problem with car it was giving a jerk on shifting the gears more then normally it gives a jerk at shifting gears i got it checked up by a mechanic and he said the fault is with the engine foundation and play in the cv joints on the engine side i got the foundation replaced and the cv joints were repaired by the (kharadiya) he filled the gaps and one cv joint was changed, but i am still getting the jerk can any one tell me what else could be the cause of the problem?
another thing the gear oil which was taken out the mechanic asked me to get two bottles of gear oil as it's an auto transmission so i checked for genuine honda ATF but couldn't get it i only found petromin gear oil and the mechanic after putting one bottle said that the level is ok now so is the petromin ATF okay for the Honda Auto transmission? i didn't remember when and which gear oil the last time was changed.

Please help me out in this thanks.

how old is the ATF? - the transmission holds 7 litres of ATF and if its dirty, you are in for big trouble because you cannot replace or clean the ATF filter in this gearbox, Complete disassembly of transmission is required.

The ATF for this gearbox is plain old Dexron 3 which is also known as aatometick gheyr aail, make sure the package does not say Type A or Type F on the bottles. It should say Dex/Merc or Dexron clone.

Also keep in mind that civics/accords etc of these years have bumpy shifts, they do not have the ultra smooth shifts of later model gearboxes. Bumpy shifts means you experience a slight jerk at each ratio change.

the problem is you can only drain less then 2 liters if u open up the plug
whats happens is u drain as much as it comes out from the plug
and then top up with fresh

taking the gear down i think it took 4 litrs in my civic

you can flush it out from the cooler lines.

If you removed the trans and only refilled about 4 litres and it was full - then your mechanic didnt not drain the torque converter

are you asking about the ATF Gear oil? i have no idea how much old it is.
i'll check for the Types or DEX/Merc or clone on the bottle.
I have and idea about the bump but the bump was not normal and there was a sound other then that when i press the padle hardly the noise was loud before shifting to the next gear mostly that was on 1st to 2nd that was the main reason i got it checked out and replaced the foundation and got cv joints repaired.

@Xulfiqar Bro the transmission was not removed only the cv joint AKA (GODAY) were removed and the problem was with the side which fits into the engine there were gaps which were causing noise the (kharadiya) filled them and one side joint was changed.

advance the timing through distributor and see if shifting improves
retard timing screws the shifting....will make shifting delayed and jerky

b.t.w is the car revving free and fine in Neutral ? is the fuel pump and everything tip top
Life is short and very unpredictable just like a Quarter mile .....
