    Exclamation Vti Oriel Prosmatec 2001 - B16W9 Engine Swap with D17A

    can you please comment if D17A is the right engine to replace the B16w9 engine in a honda vti oriel prosmatec 2001.
    also mention if the ECU needs to be changed or will the previous ECU work.
    i don't know what an ECU is but reading a few forums got me to know its an important thing in swaps.

    An ECU is short for 'Engine control unit'. It monitors various things like the air fuel ratio, it sends fuel according to the readings sensors provide it. The throttle position sensor tells the ecu how much the throttle plate is open and the MAP sensor tells the pressure of air thus calculating the density. The ECU also controls the idle speed and the ignition timing. Ignition timing is when the spark plug sparks. The ecu also controls the VTEC engagement. The D16W9 has a 3 stage VTEC system, meaning the first stage is at 2500 rpm and the second at 5500 rpm. The D17 has a single stage VTEC, engages at a different rpm, I don't know when. The ecu of the d17 can only engage it. And I heard that there's an EGR valve in the D17, not sure, but the D16 doesn't. So that won't work with the D16's ecu. The rest can be better explained by seniors who have knowledge about this and have experienced it aswell.

    u just need solenoid if i remember correctly, of D16 to make it work otherwise it will show check light

    D16W9 is 3 stage vtec and D17 is single stage vtec. Solenoid cannot be replaced they have their own solenoid. with d17 you have to use its own ecu.

    I have eagle eye civic running d17 with d16ecu already. EGR isnt connected nd it dont show any check light or errors.

    my engine blocks the rpm at 5.5 and doesn't shift the gear even though its prosmatec. i think the vtec is not working as well. but the car accelerates like CRAZY! sometimes the car will go till 6.5 - 7 rpm and then shift gears but sometime it gets stuck at 5.5 and starts making zoom zoom zoom zoom zoom noise.

    Y do u want to rev at such rpm anyway? It isnt really safe to rev motors swapped by ustaads

    i don't know why i want to take it till 7000 rpm, i never had a 1.7 car, i bought it recently so wanted to have a bit of fun but what could be the reason for not going till 7000 rpm ?
