Default Torque converter not locking civiv 99

    Hi,

I am having civic 99 vti oriel. The story starts when I hit the car from below on a speed breaker and my transmission was leaking few years ago. Repair doesn't work so my brother changed the transmission last year. As I work out of country and the car usually drive by my sister. last time when I came to Pakistan me and my brother felt that something is wrong in the transmission as the rpm goes really high at 100 km/hr.

The Problem is: the Torque converter is not locking at cruising speed. My brother showed to the mechanic and he dont know anything about this. The Problem could be in the sensor or sensor wiring.

Can you people direct me to the right mechanic (in Islamabad) who knows about torque converter and its working.

    Regards
    Muhammad Ali

The 99 model civic in Pakistan had a hydraulic trans with electric lockup, its controlled by the 2 solenoids on top of the transmission, check their resistance - they are 1 amp circuits, so you should have no more than 12 ohms resistance on both.

One is for partial lockup and the other is for full lockup - check them. You will also need to check the wiring to them.

Is the transmission shifting through all 4 ratios?

    Thanks Guys,

Transmission is shifting through all ratios only in cruising speed I can feel that the converter is not locking. I found a mechanic name as "Arif" and shop name is "ATS Auto Transmission Specialist" on MD hussian road. He was not available there when I reach so next week my brother will take the car to him to check. Looking at his shop full of Auto transmissions I guess he will able to solve my issue.

Zulfiqar I will also check those solenoids, I went to royal honda and ask them to check those solenoid but they said they are for auto transmission, not for converter. These honda guys knows nothing about these cars.

Just have an update for my car. I changed the Transmission along with the Torque converter from Peshawar. Now the car is lighter, I got my pick back. But still the Torque converter is not locking. Even I changed the Transmission twice in Peshawar. May be I need to use the car as it is as now we are not going for long drive on this car.
