Default Are Honda Civic 1996-2000 models good for buying?

    Solution
    Dear All,

    AoA,

I wanted to buy the Honda Civic somewhere between 1996 to 2000 Models, experts advice/suggestion is required on this whether these models are good enough to buy or not as later Models are not into my Budget.

Furthermore, which one is good EXI or VTI.

    Thanks !

If you can find a well maintained vehicle then they are good. I have a 2000 model for the past four years and so far I'm very happy.

Well it is an excellent model. Ride quality is awesome and brakes are very good as well. Original new parts are still available but are expensive e.g. the new OEM springs cost Rs 6k each, similarly, new OEM headlights for the 96-97 model (pre-face lift) cost Rs 13.5k. So the parts are available but expensive. Though, parts are also abundantly available in junkyards and will be way cheaper than the brand new ones.

The air conditioning is also very nice. Overall an excellent car, but you'll have to ensure that you get a good one.

We own a 97 civic and it's been going strong. Gives about ~14 km/l in semi-highway traffic (Islamabad Expressway) with AC. Don't exactly know the in city mileage as I don't get to drive it that much. The car is an auto.

Its a vti, not really sure about the mileage, I think its close to 130k (will update tomorrow). The head assembly was swapped I guess 2 years back, maybe 3. Prior to that it wasn't very well maintained. However, since the swap regular maintenance has been ensured by me. Using liqui moly 10w40.

Please note that 14 km/l is the upper limit and with a light foot and average speed of 70-80 km/h. I constantly get 13-14 km/l (semi-highway).

I have purchased 2000 model which has been in fine condition. Re paint but very neat and clean car. But since then i am having issues. First Generator cutout issue, Then belt issue now Crankshaft pully issue however it is mostly because of unprofessional mechanics but i love the drive and beauty of this car.
I am struggling with the fuel economy as well. Currently giving only 6 km per liter only. as 200 Km on 31 liters.
So anyone from Lahore please recommend good mechanic for EK. Engine is stock so no swap expert would be advisable.
I am a Driver who knows how to drive, next goal is to know what is the best to drive. !!

I had one in the recent past, just got rid of it in the end at a throw away price. Man that car was a nightmare and drank petrol like Dracula. Its suspension was not made for Pakistani roads at all, instead was meant to do travel in space / vacuum.

one of the best thing ever made by Honda no doubt a Great car a really really fun to drive car, perfect road grip, super awesome engine and chilling prefect AC suspension is good been 2 years and not a single part got any problem that's also because i keep good care of it while driving, consumption is also good on light foot gives me around 10 km/L with AC in city.

You need to make sure to buy a very well maintained car and get the work done by expert mechanics if there's any otherwise it is a night mare. maintenance is also not very expensive but if you are not going to take care of it then make sure you have pockets filled with money and plenty of time to waste.
