If R18 was to be phased out it's news would have been there on other Asian civic forums as well.
If due to tax structure, then why would Honda invest in R18 further which is costlier, less fuel efficient, underpowered , heavy and higher on the tax net in the market compared to 1.5l earth dream engine.
Take Pakistan for instance more WHT on 1.8l and less on turbo for consumers. Why would Atlas pay more duty on import of an out dated technology further in future.
Lower engine displacements are encouraged in most Asian countries via tax their tax structures like Pakistan. Atlas will definitely switch towards lower engine displacements and higher power outputs to stay more profitable and competitive.
R18 has way more duty then the 1.5l...who can deny this fact.

Easy facts common sense... R18 will phase out- its outdated simple.

Your answer lies in pricing between the EX (2.0L) and Touring (1.5L Turbo) of the US. The latter being the most expensive although technically having a lower CC engine. The CC does not matter in this game anymore, it's the output that matters which eventually sets the price of the vehicle.

    Easy facts-Common business sense.

Exactly... For consumers but not for manufacturers. Being a manufacturer one wants to lower production cost and curb duties but sell at a higher selling price both birds in hand.
1.5l turbo is one killer solution for honda to keep cost low and due to edge in tech sell at a higher price.
    Easy fact simple business acumen.

Firstly tax and the production cost are different things. Tax is government imposed and has different slabs for different displacement engines. Seondly 1.5t is not less costly to produce. 1.8 is naturally aspirated while 1.5 is turbo charged and on high boost plus is it is DOHC. So there is no question that 1.5t is more costly than the 1.8 Na R18. Third the R18 is not considered underpowered any where.

    It's an interesting debate
But why we resist change ?
Why we are reluctant to adopt latest technology!
1.8R is a great engine but obviously it has to give way to newer more efficient engine!!!
This is the rule of Nature !!!

I don't know about any company decisions
But logically probably R18 will continue for this civic X but will be obsolete for the next generation
As it will be too old and turbo engineso will probably take over !

Sir car is pretty impressive for a local car in terms of performance. But i just cant justify the build quality for the price tag, Grande has a much better cabin compared to this. Lekin hopefully they improve these minor issues in the updated versions along the years with more features from the US spec civic.

The main issue the really put me off was the persistent rattling in the cabin, i think its been mentioned before in the thread, just the slightest bump and it rattled like crazy, there was some loose thing in the passenger door, also a rattling in the middle console. Both issues are fixed now by taking it to the showroom. Keep in mind this a October delivered turbo which was supposed to have improved quality. These issues may seem minor but should not be present in a 3Mil car. Just my opinion though.

I got my car delivered end October and facing the same rattling issue. i took off all the plastic packings from all seat and checked all door storages, removed everything from the car, checked the belts .. made sure nothing touches nothing.. and one of the door still rattles!

Will take it to dealership today!

Thanks for this advice, I will certainly check it. Actually here's the funny thing which was driving my crazy. Everytime I drove with my wife, we couldn't hear anything. I would ask her not to talk and focus on the rattling noise and we focus together and would hear nothing

So looks like it's the back of her seat that rattles. The only time I hear the noise is when I drive alone and it always seem to come from the passenger door to me. But I must try what you said.

Even if it's fixed, isn't it so bloody awful to go through this BS after paying top of 3M?

1L is offered in Civic hatchback for European market. There is no sign of Civic sedan for Europe as of now.. from reading some automotive media online.. availability of sedan in UK/ Europe is yet not known.. Honda Europe spent a lot of money on the new Honda assembly plant which will exclusively just manufacture hatchbacks.. so far and so even after having multiple assembly plants in North AMERICA, Honda NA still importing a hatchback from UK.. . https://www.pakwheels.com/blog/euro-civic-hatchback/

1L Sedan is rumored to come in Chinese market only.. In my personal opinion I don't see a 1L sedan in ASEAN Market.Yes R18 will be phased out eventually with 10 generation.
