Maybe it's the VSA kicking in as the Turbo does have power under the hood and the tyres usually do spin when pressing hard.

    Hi sam,

I've been hearing that too. Car is also driven 900KMs and Ive heard that sound 4-5 times so far. I'm not sure entirely but it did appear to be the knocking sound to me. I called my dealership and discussed the issue with them - and they also said it's knocking, the petrol may not be fine. Dealership said to me to change petrol and it will be fine.

The petrol I was using was AltronX (82 Rs) from PSO Blue Area which is alternate to HOBC.. so if petrol is good quality the car must not knock.

Generally in my experience - I've always had bad petrol from PSO but HOBC wasnt available and AltronX is only available with PSO right now.

The petrol issue will be resolved sooner or later - but I only hope that this was related to petrol issue and was indeed just knocking.

    @hamaddude
I never experienced knocking before in any of my cars so did a bit of research on it at youtube and it did sound like it as in my case so lets see, shall clarify further at 1000 KMs checkup...

so two issue for me so far:

    1. this apparent random knocking sound same like split AC outer unit fan touching the body , though used HOBC all the time
    2. Random CLICKING sound behind the dashboard towards driver side of engine compartment more towards right wheel (VSA glitch Presumably)

I had a vitz before that would knock all the time if I wouldn't drive it on HOBC so knocking exists if fuel quality is bad.

As for "always used HOBC".. somehow not all fuel is same. Even if you're using the same product but from different pumps, the quality varies.

Let's hope the fuel quality improves all over and we don't have to live with knocking for the rest of our lives. It's annoying AF.. though not very dangerous for engine.

Some guy posted a photo of PSO new fuel (yellowish in color) with a portable octane meter dipped in it.
The meter was reading in low 80s (if I remember correctly)

I saw that picture too. About the fuel quality one of my friends filled his Turbo with Altron from PSO Cavalry and his car started knocking and missing like hell. He took it to the dealership and drained the tank. The fuel sample was then taken to PSO and the manager conveniently said "sorry its in transition phase so mixing of lower quality has also taken place, will be better next time"

To be on a safe side I suggest Turbo owners to stick to hi-octane till other companies also start giving 92.

As a personal experience even in other cars before this Altron, I always noticed cars tend to knock and underperform a bit after fueling from PSO. Could be my psychological flaw due to the fact that it's State owned and such organisations can't be trusted. But since 2006 onwards when R18 came to life for me, I always witnessed slight knocking from PSO fuel which went away after Shell, Total or Attock fuel. I personally don't trust PSO in any case. Its always my last preference for fueling.

I wud advice not to use 92 RON for turbo civic as it is still new in mkt and so much mixing causing knocking problem better to use HOBC for two more weeks until we hear good news on 92 RON. Meanwhile i have tries 92 RON on my 8th gen civic , Thai vigo petrol and toyota prius all giving same fuel average and no performance difference. From last 3 weeks m using old HOBC from shell on my civic 1.5T and its perfectly fine, will try Altron X next week

Drove first 300 KMs on Shell HOBC (Didn't knock).. the next 300 on PSO Altron (it knocked).. and then the next 300 on PSO Altron X (it still knocked).

PSO has always been **** and I guess that's how its likely to be.

Gotta stick to old friend HOBC!

Have heard good feedbacks about shell hobc. Regarding Altron, Im convinced only the branding has been upgraded while the pipeline is still pumping old 87ron crap.

Lolz.... looking at the overwhelming comments in favour of PSO I have realised: It's not just me or my psychological theory that thinks PSO is a crappy Oil company

Couldn't agree more! Got Altron X instead of regular old super and I've been getting even worse fuel economy.

I saw ad in Dawn of HASCOL giving RON 92 and RON 95 from next week. It is good that other companies have started giving new fuel. Hopefully the situation would improve by end November

Lolz.... actually the roar increase is not a plus point. It rather denotes roughness. Good fuel is supposed to make it sound smoother and techy being crisp not loud such as a growl.

And for the heck of it I filled Altron today and yes the engine sound has suddenly changed making it immediately louder and rough, not the crisp techy loud but the rough growling roaring loud. So now I am gonna find Hi-octane tomorrow to neutralise this substandard PSO Altron I made a mistake to get today.

About the better acceleration I think its could be psychological with the wild growl you are getting 😂
