Default Shock Boots and Shock Mounts (Honda Civic 8th)

Hi All, today I found that my shock boots are torn, the guy at Honda said mounting and boot need to be replaced and total cost is around 11500. I was thinking of delaying it by 2 weeks as it needs 2.5 hrs around and did not have time. I also have to go out of station on during eid holidays. Is this feasible ? To wait for another 2 weeks ? I dont know how long it has already been since they are torn. Is shock damaged if boots are torn, I Googled but found conflicting opinions. Secondly how do i check if mounts also need replacement ?

sorry for duplicate posts but I seem to be not getting any help.

if shock mounts are torn then you run the risk of breaking the mount on hitting a hard bump or speed breaker at speed and the shock would dislocate and car would become undrivable and other suspension components ball joints etc may also get damaged.

but this is extreme scenario, depends on how bad it is, do you hear any noise? if not you could possibly use this for two weeks provided you are extra carefull on potholes or speed breakers.

if only the mounts are torn then the shock does not get damaged, only the mounts need to be replaced.

what are you referring to as shock boot? normally that referred as the rubber covering the strut inside the spring. thats for protection

Thanks. I hear no sound and nothing is changed in car's driving. It runs smoothly just as before, no vibration sound or anything. Boots, i can see myself that r torn. Thats it. The honda guy said boot and mounts need to be replaced and i was not sure as i have not checked mount myself. If boots r only torn then can they no change only the boots ?

if the boots are torn its not a huge issue, they are there to protect against rain water mud etc getting into the shocks and eventually trashing them. but they wont effect drivability in short period and if have to you can drive for two weeks, its the mounts you need to worried that if they are torn then thats a issue. the honda guy was probably saying mounts as he would need to remove the shock to change the boots and may fear damaging them or the mounts may already have cracks in them. but if you do it properly and mounts are not already cracked you can re use the mounts. Mounts are expensive boots are not.

Ok thanks a lot. This clears things. They gave me estimate of 11.5k rupees. For mounta and boota both. I will check mounts myself and also discuss reuse if they r intact
