    Default steering rattle - honda civic 2004

    dear all,

    my steering rattles on bumpy roads. i checked up the manual of the car and it suspects the steering rack guide as one of the faults. when the mechanic tries to tighten the nut, the rattle diminishes but the steering becomes harder + complete side to side movement reduces + the wheels dont align themselves straight after a turn. how can this rattle problem be solved without accompanying any other issue.

    there was a solution posted at the end of the following thread, kindly refer that. it was for civic 95-98. i quote that here

    "dear u dont need 2 do any thing... just go in the market... & purchase whole set of rubber bushes of "RBI" not honda or geniune... everything is fake... rear 16 bushes set... and front 12 bushes set.... approx price for rear bushes is Rs.4600 & Front Rs.3800 ... According to these r the best bushes...and 2nd step is tht u pls change ball joints.. tire rods... and front above Arm or both sides with geniune 1 from any "kabar market" ball joint should be hard in running and "THUKA HUA NA HO" The all ball joints tire rod and above front arm cost max Rs.5000... and thn tell me tht how much passengers mostly travel in ur civic? thn i will guide u the best springs for ur car... and change all 4 shokers... check by pressing the front both shoker has same power and rear both have same.... u can also change it with new 1.... other if u buy an old 1 soo it must cost Rs.4000 for all 4 shockers.... only 1 thing remains and tht is steering box.. if it is not leaking... so u dont need to change it... i m telling u the trick... see at the steering box there must be a bold of 18- 22 mm .... open it and pull out "U" Shape guthka... it is made from iron... and it has lather packing on it... which keep the sterring rod tight... if the lather rubbed... so it can handle the the rod completely and ur car will do make noise every time on rough road... if u gonna buy the geniune 1... so must pay 2000 rs for tht "guthka".... n now the trick is tht u can go and buy steering guthka "Plastic" of any old car like charade... which cost rupees max Rs.20.... and go 4 leth machine shop... by taking ur own car guthka.. and also purchased guthka... 20 rupees guthka has little size over... thn tell him to make the same as the original 1.... give him 20 - 30 rupess max... he will do tht in just 5 minz... thn go n put it in ur car and tight it not for the full force.. thn ur this probelm would also be resolved... and this guthka can easily give u the 7 - 8 months backup... thn change this again cost rupees max 50 rupess... just suppose if u gonna buy steering box.. it will cost minimum 6000 rupess... now think... it only done in rs.50...."

    Opening and closing of steering box is PITA. I replaced my civics steering yesterday because of the same iissues plus thre was a play and car used to drift towards left and driver couldnt leave the steering wheel because of that. Got kabli steering for 4700 with 1 month check warranty from chaah sultan. Initialy the steering is hard but it gets soft with time. Dnt knw about any other remedy otherwise would hav loved to help u. P.S cars steering comes back to center aftr a turn but the steering is hard as it is settling down which will get smooth with drive but no play, no sound no drift wat so ever
