    Default Rough Idling Problem with CNG on Honda Civic 2001

    First I thought to post it in the thread started by @ diesel_boy, but this topic is a bit different so started a new thread. This what was said earlier;

    @ Mr. Logas,

    A friends CNG civic 2001 model also has a Rough Idling Problem.

    And my search of internet tells me that the Venturi is the main problem.

    In that civic the Venturi is installed inside the airfilter box. Can you kindly tell me if Genuine/Original venturi designed for the Civic engines are available in Pakistan? and what is the cost? ........because when I look at the venturi it seems like a desi stuff!!

    Can you also guide us towards the permanent solution of rough idling on Civics?....The problem is more significant when the engine is Cold!

    Thanks for your consideration

    Mr. Logas replied as:
    @Wheels...........

    If you are a regular visitor of PW, you must hv readmy several posts that the most and common problem is the type, size and placement of mixer (ventury), if you use an imported gold plated mixer.... of wrong size, type and place it in the airfilter box, it will give you the same troubles.

    So if by looking at the material and craftmanship is poor and the size, type and placement is correct, it will do the best job.

    Ask your installer to place it as near as possible to the throtle body neck. Hope the same will give you some difference, then ask him to change the size and try to adjust it.

    @Bigboss:
    Thanks for your suggestions

    Well would look into the adjustment of the gas valve!

    As far as the idle valve is concerned, I guess it is working somewhat OK, because it has been noted that when there is a sudden fall of the RPM to around 500 in CNG mode, 1-2seconds later the car automatically adjusts the RPM to a little bit higher!! but then again at lets suppose 2 to 3 stop signals away the same thing happens and the car again adjusts it self

    As far as RPM adjustment with A/C is concerned there are minor adjustments (100 RPM),but not huge ones like the older 1988 corollas where when the AC was put on the RPM would jump to 1000. Also there is not much of a load put on the car when the AC is switched like the small 800-1000cc cars.

    and the last thing can you kindly tell me how to check a leak in the intake manifold?

    Thanks

    @bigboss

    well their can be atleast 20 reasons for a bad idle on a Civic of this genre, adjusting the brass screw or fidling with the ISV settings doesnt solve the issues,maybe its the advancer that is overloading the MAP sensors or a MAP sensor itself is dirty,a proper diagnosis for this issue has to be carried out, Civics are prone to such conditions coz of big air diffuser box and a Bad throttle body design, Even the ISCV Valve has got adjustments, but in this case a proper ventury has to be placed on first priority

    @ wheels, welcome to the bad bad world of Honda's with CNG. would like to share my experiance here aswell; got kit 3 months ago, 2003 civic, ran like a dream until 2 weeks ago where the idling issue became unbearable, car would stop at trafic lights and become a general nuisance, so this is what i did:
    - took it to a no body who adjusted the brass plug, blocked air intake and the car seemed fine, for a day that is.
    - took it to automax, got throttle body serviced, and got them to set it up by pc. car was ok for 2 hours , messed up again in the evening.
    - took to automaz again , they opened the kit up , got it cleaned, normal settings like brass plug etc, air blocking at this time was againt done. car ok for a day, went back to its old habbits.
    - It went pretty bad as the car woudnt even start , and when it did it shuddered like a tractor.
    - took it to hussein cng in lahore, got throttle body serviced again! got tappets done, got air filter changed, changed pipe placement in ventury, opened the ventury from the the bottom. car ran ok until i discovered it was doing 50 km in 7.5 kg's!!
    - got really pissed and took the car to al mubarik to recliam warranty on kit, the guy adhusted the power tee and viola , the car became a dream again!.

    Lessons learned, cng settings on civic is not a science and I havent seen anybody do a proper diagnosis, more of a 'hit and trial' method. secondly, save all this hastle and get a diesel car, Rs 2.7/km V Rs 2.5/km, not much to differentiate. and guess what my bill came to for the above shughal, '3000 Rs!'

    @Xtrapreneur
    do let me know how many days the new setting lasts

    u said "power tee". it means u are using lambda. they must have reduced the steps so that gas consumption gets better.

    Thankyou @KKool and @Xtrapreneurall for your valuable comments!

    I should add here that all of this hassle is only in CNG mode and not in Petrol mode, so I guess the thing has more to do with CNG usage.

    @ hash4u; my mistake, I havent got lambda, although everyone seems to be realllly pushing for it!! I assumed the knob thats on the pipe used for adjusting the gas inflow was a power tee!! its ok at the moment, though its doing 80 km on 270 Rs worth of gas, so much for savings!

    @ wheels1: no problem mate, regarding performance on petrol there is no pakistani vehicle like civic, though on cng its a different story!

    @Xtrapreneur...........

    Ppl call every thing here in Pakistan as they want to call it....Max.Gas Flow / Set Screw called "Power Tee" "Control Tee" "Gas Set Screw" you may call it pappu, munna, guddu whatever you like. As Mixer is called commonly "ventury"
