    @humanGenius

    if your age is 14 then i shudnt be arguing on u on this..

    still just incase... u dont strive for topspeed more often then you strive for torque.when you are driving regular...I havent heard of a single racing track where the original topic poster is going to take his car and try to break the record of civic top speed..
    Do the environment a favour, Use less airconditioning .. and please walk to the shop to get a pack of cigarretes..its only a 3 min walk..

    7th gen. civic offers more torque than optra, though at higher rpms.

    Thats right, I belive it was in the 120s, not exactly sure though.

    @minex
    But you do strive for better pick than more torque or hp. Pick is what actually matters a lot and can save you a lot in several instances. Dont worry abt my age, its accurate!

    More torque means easier accleration but only few around are purists of drivers to distunguish the difference. Revving high all the time and extracting almost same output is not called efficiency.

    How about some simple maths

    Honda 114/4800=0.02 per rpm
    Optra 110/4000=0.03 per rpm

    Oh. ...still it just doesn't seem right that a 1600cc Chevy can get ahead of a 1600cc Vtec on 0-60 basis. Chevrolets and other American cars usually have bigger engines which produce LESS hp & torque than their smaller engined Japanese/German counterparts.

    For example, (the only I remember!)

    Honda Odyssey - 3.5L V6 5 speed automatic. 244hp
    Chrysler T&C - 3.8L V6 5 speed automatic. 200hp.

    More displacement and 25% less hp. Ive ridden in several American minivans like the 3.8L V6 Chrysler T&C, Ford Freestar 4.2L V6 and Dodge Caravan 3.3L V6; and none are not impressive at all for their engine sizes.

    On the contrary, Ive been in a 2000 Honda Odyssey which was mistakenly equipped with a wrong transmission for the engine- Honda changed the engine from 3.2L V6 to 3.5L V6 but mated it to the same transmission(which was then edited the following 2001/2 model). And this minivan was substantially more agile than the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country LXi 3.8L V6 I had for a while.

    Thats why most American cars have HUGE engines--yet theyre mostly sluggish, relatively. Honda beats Chevy. Always.

    simple maths implies linear torque band, which is not possible. anyways, low end torque is not end of world, gotta do with engine design and bore & stroke specs.

    @humangenius

    evaluate the vehicles on the basis of power/weight, and whp.

    Sorry, dont have precise info at the moment. But I will get it.

    And @ your reply to Sir Spectra :

    "low end torque is not end of world, gotta do with engine design and bore & stroke specs."

    ...And here with some magical, miraculous assistance a Chevy Optra is superior to a Civic. You gotta be kidding me !

    @Human Genious

    Whats fact s fact. Both cars are more or less same in torque department. HP differs and i agree but you have tod rive an optra to find out what difference we are talking about.

    Also, i found optra to be spacious and comfortable for a person of my size whereas Civic back seats give me backache on a 2 hour travel because if i try to sit with correct posture, my head touches the roof.

    There are many small small features which make optra more desireable compared to civic at least for me.

    Thats NOT why Civic is the best.

    Its the best cause it features the best comfort, the best performance and the best safety in its class. Cheap maintenance is a side topic.
