    7th gen civic has curb weight of 2421 lbs (1098 kg) and has

    1. if D16y6
    HP: 127hp/6600rpm (p/w 0.116hp/kg)
    Torque: 146Nm/5500rpm(t/w .133Nm/kg)

    2. if D16w9 (not confirm as i've taken them from some forum)
    HP: 110hp/5600rpm (p/w 0.100hp/kg)
    Torque: 152Nm/5300rpm (t/w 0.137hp/kg)

    I think it has d16w9 as i've checked it but dont remember exactly.

    Also remember civic has quite large transmission loses (approx 40%) please refer to following thread

    Quoting Racerf1

    "We tested
    Civic dynoed 91whp, factory rated 140whp,
    An Accord Dynoed 101whp, factory 159hp
    Camry dynoed V6 124whp, factory 213hp,
    Toyota Hiace 70whp,factory 117hp,
    Suzuki 1.3Carry dynoed 63whp, factory 72hp
    Dodge Ram 425whp, Factory 505hp
    Porsche 308whp, factory dynoed 308.4whp"

    Link:

    https://www.pakwheels.com/forumreply_az_TopicID!31326~ForumID!10~page!1~pw.h tml

    and chevorlet Optra has 1175 kg (M/T) - 1185 kg (A/T) and has

    HP: 107hp/5800rpm and
    Toque: 150Nm/4000rpm
    (i.e., p/w 0.091hp/kg and t/kg 0.127Nm/kg (for m/t))

    As for case of optra low end torque would definitely help in a quarter mile.

    But I personally like Optra.

    Sorry for long reply. Hope it helps

    Regards,

    Ali Zaib Khan Mohmand.

    Okay there we go. The Civic 1600cc SOHC Vtec is swifter and more agile than the Optra 1600cc DOHC.

    time to stop replying to this thread...

    as the lakir ke faqir fits perfectly on a large number of pakistani wanna be drivers...and that "Mein tay Honda ee laisaan, "

    people here are too obsessed with games like Need for speed.. and think that dirving is all about 0 to 60... and high revving...

    rather than accepting a car to be better in more departments truly related to motoring other than the department of reselling..typical pakistani mentality would rather dump a class car bcoz of no reason ...
    Do the environment a favour, Use less airconditioning .. and please walk to the shop to get a pack of cigarretes..its only a 3 min walk..

    @HG all i can say is go get yourself a drive of an optra, if u cant drive atleast take a ride in it. what you are saying is totaly based on words and figures, there is something known as driving experience, u cant jus argue over figures @spectra has taken a ride in an optra, may be drove it but you on the other hand i am not sure have ridden it. But even if you will go get ureself a ride in an optra and in ure mind you will b thinkin that civic is the best, you wont be able the areas where an optra is better. people who debate over a topic concerning which car is better with only the help of figures, please go drive that car and then tell us how it is like. take a ride in a civics front seat and then in the optras front seat, ull notice a big difference. Optra is more spacious than a civic and comfortable. now please drive an optra and then post ! . thank you

    @s_o_d
    Havent driven any car yet (due to age) but am aware of experience friends and relatives give me. Furthermore, worldover expert & consumer reviews are available on the internet and you'll find nothing but positive things regarding the Civic. However for the Optra, or Suzuki/Chevy/Daewoo in different countries people have several complaints. And its really not surprising.

    You see, if you want a car because its seats are softer, perhaps youll find the Optras seats better than Honda's sporty, firm bucket seats. Honda is more of a "performance" company so naturally their vehicles are sportier both from the engine point of view and driving point of view.

    However, I don't purchase cars for particularly comfort, per se, but for commute. The Optra may be slightly more spacious with softer seats and better sound proofing- which are all wonderful aspects, but for me, these things really don't matter. Neither do I care much for performance in general, but because these are small cars, it matters a lot. I frequent mountainous trips and it is extremely critical which vehicle can actually do the job. Civics can, Altis' can, but Chevys will struggle. Ive seen em.

    Also, there are more aspects of cars than what we've discussed. For example - safety. Honda Vtis have been featuring ABS & 4 wheel disc brakes since 2000, however the imported Optra still fails to feature ABS. I for one, refuse to own a vehicle without ABS.

    Now, agreed that the Chevy has additionals that the Civic doesnt, such as a cool box, remote trunk release and perhaps others. But so does Honda. It features power retractable wing mirrors, seat height adjuster, courtesy lights and several more the Optra doesnt.

    Anyways, Civics are just really good cars. Im not saying it out of ignorance, unawareness or because of bias issues, but because of logic. Nevertheless, its your opinion, I respect it (Y)

    Regards,
    HG

    @minex
    I think you were referring to me when you said

    "and think that dirving is all about 0 to 60... and high revving... "

    Certainly I believe otherwise, but do note that the 0-60 speed is extremely critical. I cant really explain over here in writing, but I can think of several instances where 0-60 timing can mean a difference of life and death, saving many hours of on-the-road time (while still maintaining safe) and other benefits.

    Im standing for Honda not because its powerplant says "Vtec" on it, but because I know the car VERY well. Its a marvel besides the performance aspect. Like when you sit in the car, you really feel good. At least I do.

    @spectra

    mmmmm no not really. BMW is there :p

    No but in general, I strongly believe Honda is a winner in its class. Toyota is a competitor, but none others for all practical reasons. Sure theres Hyundai, Kia, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Pontiac, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford and several others, but lets be practical. American cars look awesome and are really exceptional in every field but performance and efficiency where they loose big time. Others are...

    And then between Toyota and Honda, because Ive had only bad experiences with Toyo and good with Honda, naturally I only accept Honda.

    yes certainly i was reffering to your post..
    its good that kids of your age are showing keen interest in
    discussing the vehicles of today, hopefully your generation would be able to evaluate cars on merit bcoz of earlier exposure..

    I wish for you to grow up quickly ...and then test drive honda and optra...and grow up, till then best of luck with 0-60 timings in ur dads Vtech... drive safe...

    I think they are not comparable because spectra was designed with some different parameters in mind compared with these two. Its relatively basic and cheaper alternative for these two.

    @lotus,

    Sorry I can't have a say in it, I have not personally driven the Optra, if I offered an opinion it would be wrong since one needs to drive both options thoroughly before coming to a conclusion.

    However lets see what the professionals say about Suzuki Forenza/Chevy Optra/Daewoo Lacetti:

    Here's a little snapshot I got from Edmunds:

    At a glance, the well-equipped Suzuki Forenza appears to offer terrific value. But in our evaluations, we've found that it falls short of the segment leaders in terms of performance, fuel economy, handling and interior refinement. As such, we feel it's a compromised, marginal player, struggling just a bit too much to keep up. Unless you really need the extra space of its available wagon body style, we recommend that you focus on one of its more worthy competitors.
    On the road, the Suzuki Forenza exhibits soft, rubbery handling and a poor ride quality compared with its competitors, as well as excessive wind noise on the highway. Although it's compliant enough, we found there's little suspension control over bumps and ruts. Handling around corners is loose and unsure, with excessive body roll and minimal grip from the tires. When merging into traffic, automatic-equipped Forenzas accelerate weakly and any maneuver takes a little planning. One bright spot is the braking system, which provides short stopping distances despite a slightly spongy pedal.
    Here's a complete review of it: http://www.edmunds.com/suzuki/forenza/review.html
