    Default Engine for Civic 88-90

    Dear All,

I have now decided engine swap in my Civic 90

(existing engine has noise in gear box n crank and needs replacement for pressure n clutch plate)

I need suggestion for what engine should i go for now ?

I need reasonably good pick up and power (but not for racing stuff). Car should touch 140 on highways/Motorway

    D15b is 1500cc
Honda Engine Codes are very simple.you can find the capacity of an engine in the Engine Code. For Example D15b is 1500cc where as D16's are 1600cc same goes for B16,D17,Etc.
As for D15b3 in a 90 Civic. That's not such a bad choice it's cost effective and economical too I am using the same in engine in my 4th Gen Civic it's economical good on Gas and Pick is Good. But all this can happen when the engine is in good shape if not then you'll end up visiting mechanics every day.Other thing about the D15b3 is the Overheating issue in summers Check the Gaskit and if you can upgrade your radiator that will help a lot.Your engine Bay won't need a lot of modification to fit in this engine so if you want a budget engine i would say go for it but make sure it gets done properly.
P.S: If you have any more questions feel free to ask
My 4th Gen HONDA Its............... White(CIvIC Si),

    nowornever@
sorry brother for being out of screen, d15b3 is 1495CC(1500CC) carburator, i must say its absolutlly wrong that the engin has any heat up problem( unless its cooling system like radiator, water body, fan are not only bad neither worn but excessivly worn), i used it in my road trip from karachi to jehlum ( u peoples can visit it in off road /vocations forum ) , day temp in sukkar multan region in may 2008 was 45+ , it was crusing at 110+ with five adults ,300kg of luggage along with AC , in interiore jelhum i used it on up to 30 degree steep jeepable tracks with same payload ,
I never saw it temp neddle deviating even a single millimeter from its normal position

I takled to several expert mechanics (those who are in touch with such type of cars i.e. not highway mechanics who are addict of opening engins of rollas only), all of them said the same "YA GARI GARM NAHIN HOTI".

    Options of engines :
    D15B Vtec
    D16B Vtec
    B16A Vtec
    B18C Vtec
    K20A Vtec
    K24A Vtec
K20A3 Vtec (Civic and Integra Type R)
    H22A Vtec

I.M.O i would say just put in the D13A2 Hyper 16 Valve City Carb or EFi setup. Economical and Average Power. If more power is needed D15B1 Carb or D15B2 EFi/Vtec will do I guess.

Talking from personal experience i'd say D15B SOHC Vtec is the best option if you're not lookin to take your cars to the heavy duty tracks. It still is a beast under hood meant for everyday driving.

    Some pics.
