Default Honda Civic 2001 Vs Toyota Corolla XE Saloon

AOA Gents: I own Honda Civice VTI 2001. Somehow I feel that it's front suspension require regular maintenance due to our roads condition. This maintenance is quite costly. Someone told me that Toyota is the brand which is suitable for our roads and it's suspension is durable. Therefore, I want to change my ride. You know when the front susp is not in order, the charm of Honda drive vanished. But before switching to Toyota, I must require your advice. Is Corolla XE Japan assembled, model 97-99 is good car to keep for longer period of time? Please help. Your comments will be very valuable for me. Please note that I am not able to go for any other Toyota i.e. Pak assemble Xli, Gli (don't like) , Premieo, X (out of reach).

DUDE! TOYOTA IS THE BEST BRAND AND VERY MUCH BETTER THAN HONDA .FROM MY SIDE I SAY "YOU HAVE TO BUY TOYOTA COROLLA XE" BECAUSE I HAD USED TOYOTA AND I AM STILL USING.. MAIN ADVANTAGE OF USING TOYOTA IS THAT IF U R NOT MAINTAINING IT SO IT CAN ABLE TO USE. IF YOU WANT TO GO IN DETAIL SO I AM HERE?

Thanks for replies. It seems all votes in favour of rolla (I assume Japan assemble) but I would waits for some comments from who kept both (civic/rolla) It will be easy than to take a decision.

Asad1 - Here in ISB cars with manual transmission are available - no interest in auto.

very strange brother but yar most of the guyz really dont know to compare which car from which one,

    yar Civic 2001=EXi (1500cc),VTi1600cc,VTi Oriel(1600cc With Sunroof)

Corolla XE=1300cc Just Power Steering, unpowered windows mirrors,Bumpers unpainted

bhai 1300cc car ko 1300cc ki car sai compare karo yar

you should compare XE Indus with City 2001 ExiS/Exi hYper both 1300cc but the plus point is hyper city 2001 is with injecter where XE is with carborator, and City 2001 is compareable with XLi,GLi

anyways Indus worth at its place atleast its better than new gli xli...lolz;-)

Ok i have both CIVIC and COROLLA (GLi, not JDM). If u want comfort on straight roads, civic is the best. If u want good suspension for bumpy roads as u said, no matter u shud switch over to corolla because civic can't afford these roads. As far as i read ur mind, corolla is the best option for u

    Dear all,

We have 2001 Corolla XE, we just change its engine oil and tuneup after every 10,000Km.

XE is maybe inferior to due Engine Technology like its not EFI and have In line 4 Engine, but Horsepower is same as the new Corolla XLI/GLI which 85 BHP.

Fuel Consumption is high, but still i like the old engine there is much lessor maintenance cost when you compare it with EFI.

Electronics aids can brokedown but Carborator cars are more reliable since there are no Electronics/chips involved in it.

But I think you are comparing 97-99 Japan Assembled Corolla, it must be EFI and with the new shape, still the design is not comparable with the local 98 assembled XE car.
If you haven't seen the future, you're not going fast enough!

    Listen mates!

I am not that good at cars to be in a position to advise someone but if my meagre and feeble words could assist, I would like to suggest you to go for Corolla since your problem is the suspension. It seems as if your usual driving conditions are on bumpy roads and hence Corolla is the car for you. Actually I have had a Corolla 1995 GLi for almost five years now and I have been driving to areas like a few villages near Swat, Peshawar and Islamabad etc. Corollas, no doubt, suit Pakistani road conditions. So you should go for any given Japanese corolla. I personally do not like the new shape and hence recommend 1996-1998 Corolla GLi (2007-2008 Qouta). It comes fully loaded and is a pleasure to own.

But look at me, advising you for a Corolla and myself going to sell my Corolla to buy a Civic 2002-2003. But my reasons are different. I have had a Corolla for a long time and hence want to switch to Civic for having a new car. Besides, I do not intend to drive other than in Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar therefore suspension would not be a problem and hence I can enjoy the superior comfort.

In conclusion my dear, I have done some research and, no matter what people say, the truth is that Civic and Corolla are highly competitive cars. They both are more or less same in many aspects. So I have drawn a simple conclusion that is; If you are driving on bumpy roads and suspension is your main concern go for a Japanese Corolla however if that is not your problem than consider Civic becasue Civic has a better engine life. But then it all comes to how good you maintain your car. Happy Motoring brother...!!!
    Sidd
