    Default Corolla AC help

    AA all!

    I have an Automatic Toyota Altis (2006). I am the first owner, and the car has 70,000km all on petrol and with the AC on whenever the car is.

    Now since April 2009, when it started to get really hot, the AC doesnt work when its really hot outside. I mean, the AC button is on and temperature coldest, but the vents are throwing very warm and stale air. Although, when the car runs for a while, say 5km, it starts giving chilled air. Also, this is only true during the daytime when the sun is scorching and temperature 40 degrees+; in evenings its (almost) fine. What could be the problem?

    Also, I have noticed twice, that the AC button light is blinking. I pushed it, waited for 5 seconds and switched it back on. What does a blinking AC light mean?

    I plan to go to Toyota this week, so I want to know what to have them inspect, service or replace.

    And by the way, I replaced the AC gas last summer when the problem started. There was minimal difference, but now the situation is REALLY bad!

    Thanks in advance,

    HG

    1. Check AC belt
    2. Check AC compressor clutch
    3. Filter bottle is chocked or electric switch on that bottle faulty.

    Blinking light is same as check engine lite, D light blinking in auto tranny cars etc...... means some problem has been reported to the system

    Sorry for late reply @HG

    I really can't give u toyota estimate but can tell u about Honda. U may have a little idea

    Belt 1500
    Swith 600
    AC clutch ..... toyota won't give u only clutch, they will ask to replace whole pulley and for honda that costs 12,000/-. But u can easily get just clutch from any used parts shop for Rs 800/- plus minus

    @panic
    Thanks a lot, and sorry for my late reply

    Actually, I just came back from Toyota, the guy said that the compressor is tripping, we'll have to open it up and fix it. But because I was short on time and moreover, the mechanic looked inexperienced, I decided to leave it as is.

    Thanks for your detailed response though, on pricing and timing (Y)

    @illdude
    Toyota Altis is a car, but not in the United States Yep, I know what youre saying, but when I created the topic, it said "Does this topic refer to any car?" and of the choices was "Toyota Altis" so thats what I wrote!

    @civic2s
    I cant tell what the problem is, but fyi its not "a similar problem" because in my car, the temp gauge has no issue, rather the AC only works when the car is moving fast or when the ambient temperature is low (relatively).

    @HG

    I recommend to get it check by someone else.

    Refer to this thread.

    Honda people told me almost 10 times that compressor needs to be replaced. After that went to another person and the whole entire problem was just that switch of Rs. 600 while Honda guys were up for some 25000 Rs. loss for me
