    Default Any pickup issues with the new GLI?

    I'm a proud owner of a 2005 GLI. Despite its poor braking, the car has great pickup and runs flawlessly on CNG. It is four years old now and has accumulated 69,000 kms. I'm planning to replace my 05 gli with the new one. But my acquaintances are advising me against buying the new gli due to its sluggish pickup, axle problems and ridiculously high price. Your valuable adivice and comments would be helpful.

    you need to sell your car because now is the ripe time to get an optimum price. older the model, lower price.

    that is first issue you must remember.

    new Corolla, it is hard to believe its pick is slower than your model owing to it's shape because it is somewhat more aerodynamic. secondly it has vvti engine. these are my two cents. more technical people will soon be around to guide us both.

    as far as high price is concerned, didn't you pay more than you would for a cheaper brand new GL of the Indus shape? 1.3l fully loaded GL back then was for something. new shape turned into Gli with same or worse stuff yet more price. current Glis have more to offer in terms of engine, braking, multi info display, and God knows vot else. you might like to check out yourself at:

    http://www.toyota-indus.com/newcorolla/spec.aspx .

    point is, with Toyota price increases with every model change.

    @indus_viper
    Yes thts correct new corolla pick is way to less then old shape but only and only with CNG.

    Its pick is matchless on Petrol. Initially I though that thre is some problem in CNG settings but later on upon discussing with servral different owners it is obviuos that new corolla have less pick and average on CNG.
    Thanks

    Many many thanks for the feedback guys. Toyota dealer at Aabpara in Islamabad is offering me CNG for 45,000 and it won't void the vehicle's warranty. A colleague of mine is a satisfied owner of one and he'll be offering me a test drive this evening. Let's see.

    Every car has a lot of speed in it. The trick is getting the speed out of it.

    Just came back after test driving the new GLI. I have to admit the drive was smooth but was a touch heavier. It was noiseless and that was the plus point. The interior is refined and a touch better than the previous version. I also like the orange coloured instrument cluster and the flat floor in the rear. But then again, the exorbitant price tag of 13.5 lakhs doesn't justify for a 1.3L vehicle. Guess I'll wait till September and then decide to go for the kill ( if you know what I mean ;-) ). Anyways thank you all for your valuable feed back.

    The old GLi has the engine without VVT-i which produces 80bhp of power and the new one has VVT-i which produces 85bhp.

    New GLi's engine has better fuel economy, i think.
    Old model has 4 wheel disc brakes which was proved not best.

    New one has ABS, which is better than the previous one. As far as shape is concern, according to my point of view new one is much better desgined by Toyota.

    And new one is more solid too
    It is impossible to please everybody.

    @internal_auditor

    I tend to agree with you. In fact, the breaking was just perfect and the drive-by-wire steering made the drive all the more enjoyable. As regards the City. I think 1.2 million is also asking a lot. Also the City is for the young at heart kinda folks. I may be 30 but am a laid back type of a person. The Corolla suits my style and in the long run would be cheaper to maintain. Although, I have to admit the City's drive and road grip are superb as well. It's just a matter of personal choice.

    @all

    Please bro..make it understand that all u people are saying tht it has a vvti engine producing 85bhp etc etc so it has better fuel economy...bhaio pahlay dekho k masla kya hai..the problem is about pick on CNG..not on petrol..and when the car is on cng,it by passes all the hi tech sort of systems like,variable valve tech, valve tech,it does not matter on CNG tht wheather the car is VTI or VVTI,absolutely no effect of these things when it is on CNG,caz yeh saray systems to kaam hi nai kar rahay hotay,a no of sensors also do not work when car is on CNG,even EF andI MPFI has nothing to do with low consumption of gas,as they do not work when the car in on CNG.when u compare a VTI and EXI civic,VTI will take lead only due to 1.6(due to 100cc more then EXI) ,not due to V-tech,Thanks and please correct me if i m wrong,these all infos are given to me by honda people at HONDA CENTER RWP.
