Default Maintenace expences of Corolla and Honda City

    Assalam o alikum,

I am about to finalize my purchase of honda city 2000, from my contacts i have heared that maintaining a city is almost twice as expensive as that of corolla of the same period, guys i want to have your opinion in this regard. and secondly if indeed it is the case does honda spares give me twice life for the replaced item as compared to that of corolla,

i hope i conveyed what i want to say, waiting for replies

i think its just a myth as market is so huge that there are many qualities of parts available for both toyota and honda. But its better so stick with best quality parts, and if u go for quality parts maintenance of every car will be costly. But this cost is paid by the performance of such parts.

ok, thats understandable, just to get an opinion what would you say i should opt for a family car, say for next 7-8 years, a corolla or a honda, keeping maintenance cost over the years in mind

now this what i was talking about, get a honda and get a corolla, one thing that really bugs me is that what corolla of the same age is about a lack more expensive than the honda, is there something really in corolla that it does not devalue like other cars,

guard Oil filter for city 2000 is around 150
guard air filter for city 2000 is 250
oil depends on which brand and type you get but that's same for any car
I used to change oil of my 2002 city every 3000 km. The cars engine is just as new after 105k kilometers. I don't call this maintenance expensive.

If any one knows corolla filters prices please post here for comparison.

Even for 2003 civic, all the prces are Same as above except air filter which is 500 rupees.

Corolla has got good resale which means it's not good value for a rice conscious second hand car buyer. A friend of mine just sold his 2006 175k driven corolla xli for 850k. The car was also major accidented and repaired.

i also dont think that this is the parameter for costing as well, maintenance i am talking about is like change of shocks, change of a headlight, brake system maintenance like change of master cylinder or callipers stuff like that,

Last year I sold my Toyota Indus... great car, but if you are driving in city I would advise you to go for Honda City 2000 Exis.
City is performance wise better as compared to both 1300 engines, huge difference on CNG performance.

    I have both cars, a corolla 2004 with 100,000km and a Honda City 2007 with 55,000 km.

Though corolla has its draw backs, I would reccomend to u that you go for City. As for maintainance expenses, Toyota is cheaper but not by much, particularly if u get it serviced by the dealer. Honda City is a fragile car and also has substantially less engine power when compared to corolla which is robust and is likely to be reliable. My corolla still runs like a brand new car although it does have its drawbacks.

yes honda's resale is not better than corolla. if u r going to purchase for gud resale. then go for corolla. and the model u r asking that is 98-200 xe or gl, this will cost u around 500k in perfect running condition. But be prepared mentaly for some repairs in the car becoz the 2nd hand car has always some of the repairs ready to be done as soon as the new party purchases the car.
