    Default 2C engine of corolla 2.0d , DETAILS PLZ?

    GUYS , please tell me the history and reality about the 2C diesel engine (2.0d) , IT'S success generally and why is it still in use? Please answer professionaly as I have to use this info in my Masters project....

    well i'll tell u as much as i know about this. i own the newer one, but both the old n new have same engine,

    Technical:
    it is 1975cc (2C) engine that was introduced around 1995 internationally
    produces 89hp @ 4000RPM and 203Nm of torque @ 2200RPM, red starts at 5000RPM, top speed is ~180

    Advantages:
    first of all its diesel, cheap to run, and quality ride due to the pull of the engine in any gear at low RPM coz of huge torque, secondly toyotas have a heritage of good resale in pakistan, in other countries it maybe otherwise. the 2C of the previous model of corolla produces slightly less hp due different top (cam, intake + exhaust valves) but has same engine, while the new 2.0d has 5 more hp with improved engine top (told me toyota folks).the diesel only beats 1.3 petrol care from 120 to 180, at higher speeds the drag is greater, so u need more power tht is torque (greater torque is produced by diesels thanks to its higher compression ratio), and diesel always has it plenty of it. while it CAN beat 1.6 petrol cars ONLY if your are climbing hills, again due to torque, otherwise the VTiz and SEz will smoke it.

    Disadvantages:
    as we are in pakistan, we can never see the light of the day, as the newer technology is never introduced here, today diesels are becoming close rivals to petrols due to the CTDI engine (Common-rail Turbo Diesel Injection), and even topping petrols in some cases, they have no bad emissions meaning no smoke. as other 2.0 diesels CDTI engines produce average of 120 hp and 300 nm torque, but we are stuck with this old technology. onother dissadvantge is shorter gear span resulting in loss of accerlation anyone here having a 2.0d can experience it, that it tht a 1.6 petrol can touch 60 in first, while diesel top at only 40, petrols do 100 in second diesel does 60, and so on.

    so now i guess u know why its sucessful....cheap, engines pull, and resale...tc peace

    tech wiz...i must say, this was one of the sane answers on the 2D that i have so far read on this forum. excellent mate. keep it up.

    NO MATTER YOU GO UP THE HILL OR GO DOWNHILL, EVERY WHERE ANYTIME WHATEVER CONDITION U SUGGEST, NO WAY THAT THIS PAKISTANEEEE COROLLA 2.0D IN STOCK UPTODATE"9/12/2005" CAN BEAT ANY 1.6L HONDA OR TOYOTA (STOCK). NO MATTER HOW LONG ROUTE U WANT IT TO BE.

    yar getmoa tel me something. trucks n buses and all heavy load machineries like cranes, etc are diesel! i hope tht gets understood in your mind, ok the next step because they have power, but they arent fast! now for going uphill u dont need fast car but a powerful car, and ask ANY real buddy here key do diesels hav a torque advantage or not?, answer will be yes. nhn yakin aata take my vti and i'll b on my 2.0d then how bout isb to mmuree! if u can make ur vti win u take it!

    well said tech bhai. hills, elevations are always diesel engine speciallity. You need more torque to effectively gain speeds while climbing. so getmoa! u r a good frnd, therefore, i will suggest not to race tech_wiz's 2D on a vti. cheers.

    OK DUED NP, BUT I WON'T TAKE UR VTI.

    LAIKIN TRUCK BUSES ETC ARE MADE FOR THE ECONOMICAL PURPOSES, THEREFORE, THEY R BUILY IN DIESEL BECOZ ITS CHEAP. ELSE JUST IMAGINE WHAT WOULD BE THE CONSUMPTION AFTER CARRY LOAD IF THEY R MADE IN PETROL.

    ok bro desi eng buddy lolz, now to tell you that im also living in lahore gulburg III, and for hill climb i was biased towards 2.0d as i once went to muree on this, with 3 ppl and full boot engine seemed to pull to car up up n away, frm there i deduced tht there is something, n tht was torque, any way have u seen the PAF officers mess of Sector E-9, islamabad, coz i have been living there? ager someone else has seen it then he knows its steep slope n that is u cant walk up n down more thn 2 times, legs jawab dey jati hein, and on tht same steep slope i bashed this current vti. but bro i ADMIT vti is faster on straigth road, and on little bit of hill climbing, no way what hell on hills of muree, and other turns further. secondly ok i have a litmus test right here rigght now. thats is seat 5 ppl in 2.0d and run, u wont feel much decrease in acceleration as tht of with 1 person, then kisi bhi paki petrol car mein 5 banday bethao then u'll see tht cars acceleration decreased from the pick when one person was sitting in it, now tht contributes to torque, i hope u get wht i said bro. whats your email id?

    I agree with tech_wiz....diesels are torque masters, and when it comes to long runs or uphills, such cars fail off.

    and truck bhagtay nahi...........kis nay kaha......kabhi nissan diesel kay baray dumper ko bhagtay dekha hai???
    toofan hota.....yeh alag baat hai k yeh load ki wajah say zyada tez nahi chaltay.

    try racing ur vti with a shehzore on highway!!!!!!!!! it will give u a very tough time.

    Sir may I be rude enough to correct you that the 2C was introduced internationaly in 1985 Toyota Corona & 1984 Toyota Townace(Van) in Pakistan it wasintroduced in Corrolla in 1996.

    Originally 2C happens to be the big brother of 1C 1.8(1840cc) diesel which was introduced in 1981, later Toyota upgraded it to 2.0(1975) which is now known as 2C.

    Esentially the 2C remains to be almost unchanged since 1985 but small incremental changes in the Rocker and induction system has made it slightly more powerful fuel eficient and even better than it was.

    It is a very robust engine and I know people who have done more than 400,000 km without even a minor Overhaul.

    As compared to the latest Toyota 2.0 D4-D engines it is way short on power but it is an engine on which the diesel Gurus swear by.

    If you buy a Brand new car wid a 2C engine, with good preodic maintance there is no doubt that you should be able to crack 450,000 km without any problem.

    Another thing on which the 2C outruns the other 2.0 Diesel engines is the rebuilt quality. I dont know why but rebuilt 2Cs turn out to very reliable as well.

    I have used two 1Cs and a 2C in my diesel converted cars, & trust me thes toyota engines are prety much bullet proof.

    tech_wiz.. u r 101% right.... diesel engines r known for torque... and to pull a car up hills torque is the main thing.... and thats why its right that up the hill diesel is faster..

    sir actually ur absolutely wrong and hes absolutely ryt !!! i have tried this many times and yup its a fact no matter how fast is a vti or se saloon than a 2.od , going uphill or on bridges 2.ods are always more faster and powerful ! i have vti have kept se saloon also but going uphill 2.ods always give u better power and speed and pick they are faster than 1.3 and 16 ltrs here !
