    Default Corolla 2010 basic queries

    Owners of Corolla should confirm there experiences on the following basic queries:

    - Although I've replaced the stock tyres of the car but still wont notice any short braking distance, I guess Corolla brakes are not implemented for sudden braking.

    - The Km/L indicator in the car is remaining between 8.5 to 9 Km/L within City drive (with / without AC). Even on long straight drive of 20KM at night time with no traffic and stop in between the indicator is not showing something like 14 km/L. Do the indicator needs to be RESET before every drive/trip ? Or is it normal for a city drive ? How much ideally it should indicate (in/out of city)?

    Thanks.

    Which Corolla do you have? My friend just bought a 2010 GLi, stock EuroStar tyres and the brakes on that car are absolutely phenomenal. Am in love with it.

    @MK77

    i have 1.8 auto its milage in city with a/c is about 7.5 to 8.5km/litre on highway its around 14 to 15km/litre at speed around 110.

    For good milage the art is not to make too many short trips like less than 10 km they will simply destroy your milage..Secondly avoid brakes and harsh acceleration... try to remove foot from gas pedal well before intended stop rather than putting break later ......if you concentrate you can learn to put less pressure on engine by just pressing accelerator softly and save fuel also keep tyre pressure with in normal limits donot change to wider tyres like 215 etc .........

    a 1.8 auto in my circle, as a total average of 11.5 over its 5k km life, this is all city driving with average trip less than 4 km's.

    the mileage meter tells you instantaneous mileage and overall mileage, try the instantaneous one and than adapt your driving style to get the maximum.
    its all about power to weight ratio...

    @jayb, sars, wahabriaz....

    Well, I don't think ABS makes braking distance short. A lot of people confuse it with that. It simply adds steering capability during braking to steer through obstacles.

    Toyota XLi and Gli share common brake that is four wheel disc, with GLi having ABS.

    I have actually driven both Corolla and Honda city....Corolla brakes are soft ( I don't mean they do not respond but rather makes the car stop gradually)....with Honda city the brakes are instant ( I mean you really have to press it softly to avoid instant stand still).

    I've now for a while driven every trip after resetting the mileage indicator...the instantaneous consumption is indicated between 9km/L to 12km/L (for 1.3L) and goes rarely till 13KM/L when driven at 80 to 100 km/h in high gears.

    I must add it has nothing to do with trip distance (as most of my trips are of 6kms avg.) but, these are some important factors:

    - Driving in high gears that is 4th or 5th with suitable gear speed between 60 to 120 km/h

    - Rare/harsh braking
    - No Harsh engine speeding
    - AC in low fan speed (1 or 2)

    @mk 77

    Sir i never said ABS shortens breaking distance and fully agree with what you said ...i don't have personal experience with brakes of city .....i am comparing it to previous model corolla .............

    But short trips do decrease mileage cause you stay in low gears for longer time however if roads are clear then may be it wont effect that much ......
    Donot look at instatneous milage that will tell you nothing it means nothing just look at average mileage .... or simple reliable method of getting tank fill and calculation manually
