Default Unstable Idle RPMs in Corolla 2010

    AoA

Friend of mine has Corolla xli 2010. Few days back car's idle RPM started to variate between 800 and 200 repeatedly. This was on CNG and without AC. With AC RPM stabilized a bit. He sent the car to the guy who installed the CNG to resolve the issue.

    Today, he came to my home on his car with following issues;
    ON CNG
    1. starting was pathetic
    2. if on CNG , it starts and stalls immediately.
    3. if some how it starts the RPM goes way up to 4000 and then gradually falls to zero and engine stops.
    4. I tried to adjust it now idle is 2000 but if i set it to less than 2000. RPM start decreasing and engine stalls in few seconds.
    5. Engine tends to shutdown whenever i remove me foot from the accelerator
    6. Check engine light is ON.

    On Petrol
    1. Starting is good.
    2. Idle RPMs variate between 2000 to 4500 and continues to do so.
    3. Accelerator response is v bad. even on leaving the accelerator the rpm keeps on increasing.
    3. Check engine light is on

    Please guide me about
    1. what might have gone wrong?
    2. What should I do?
    3. where should I take the car for solution?
    4. how serious is the problem?

Sorry to hear your problem , friend..Must be really tense
Any way they F..D up your car..

But the problem is with the Advancers....
If unable to solve it...Try bringing to original state and see if it performs fine or not..
If performs fine, than CNG Advancers/Emultor are responsible..

. Idle RPMs variate between 2000 to 4500 and continues to do so.
that is even now working the right way. it should stay at 0.5 or 1

The CNG technician also manages to mess up the engine even on petrol. RPM needle goes from 2000 to 4500 and back at 2000 and then 4500 and so on. this is too much cant drive the car in this condition, Check engine light is also a gift from him. Poor friend is in depression looking his new car in this condition.

i am not aware of any technician who can properly install a kit in corolla 2010 and i m sure not too many people have a clue about the wiring in that car,

secondly corolla 2010 requires very specific equipment including LAMBDA AS WELL. our illiterate mechanics have no clue as to how to install and calibrate it properly

I reccomend that the car is immediately taken to an authorized toyota dealer so that all the wiring mess can be repaired and the vehicle brought back to its original state.

another pakwheeler had somewhat of a similar problem...
try and bring back stability and originality on petrol first then tweak on cng.
    check these b4 anything else:
    1. is the air intake blocked anywhere? its mechanics fav. thing to do so and in this particular engine can cause unstable idle even on petrol.
    2. is the wiring cut anywhere?
    3. did the mechanic change tappet (valve clearance) settings? (if he pulled off the engine cover then yes he probably did that)
    4. did he mess around with the spark plugs? Probably he set the gaps too less or too much.
    5. maybe emulator and advancer stuff arent working properly.

if its a blocked intake thing then u can correct it yourself.
otherwise best to take it to authorised toyota dealer (preferably 3s dealer) and get it checked out.

after putting cng in the new car the warranty is finished and 3s dealers cant do anything, u have to check with local trained mechanics.

    Dear Bro

i have checked as you said,
    1. air intake was blocked but even after removing it, the rpm did not stabilized on petrol.
    2. I did not find any cut wires in the engine bay, every thing is connected through connectors.
    3. yes, He did fiddled with the tappets, dont know about the setting.
    4. yes, he changed the Spark plugs, dont know about the gap settings
    5. As I have no idea about efi cars and the emulator or advancer used in these cars for CNG.

Can you tell me, does this advancer thing also active when car is on petrol?

if yes, then it may be the problem coz the CNG guy was saying something about its being problematic and of inferior brand. He recommended landi's original.

You may be right as i have also heard this. BUT

if we dont claim warranty and tell them to disconnect all the CNG component and bring the car back to its original and tune it. We will pay for it ofcourse. Will they not do it?

Well you are not going to get this fixed under warranty. So they wont mind fixing it with charges.

I kinda feel its a issue with advancer, I may be wrong.

My mechanic infront of my eyes installed (He do this as a hobby insalling cng kits but his fitting no one can match the cng pipe will come along the petrol line with proper clips and takes full day lol to perfect everything) CNG in two xli 2010 and we tested them on motorway till 170KMPH working as good as petrol and you wont beleive the local avg these two are getting 160 to 170 KM in 55kg in city driving of pindi.

The mechanic you chose was not good, Get it fixed from good CNG guy.
Speed costs money, how fast can you afford to go.

Take the car to some reputable person but before that please get some knowledge about best in this field and then get checked by some and then decide which problem they have diagonsed also get checked/estimate of issue from Toyota as they can do this free of cost and also will let you know about expense involved, may be you ECU need to get some restart or re-programming.

Prior to all One important thing disconnect the battery and reconnect it while standing near some Toyota 3S and then start the car on Petrol and check the response may be it can resolve for some time and then convert to CNG if problem persist then again disconnect/reconnect battery terminals. Standing near Toyota 3S is important that if ECU cannot boot then car can be dead until forced boot.

In this case what i can say is Enjoy the condition of failure and frustration on Mechanics and yourself, if someone cannot bear the fuel expense thn why buying those cars, buy Mehrban and enjoy the drive. If going to CNG then still pay some more cash and get good quality installation and material because you already crashed with warranty and your mind's peace, so enhance it a bit more.

Agreed! one should first do some planning that whether he will be able to bear the maintenance expenses or not.

    @OP
Try to bring the car to its original specs. Ask the guy who installed the CNG to reverse back all the modification which he did. There is a thread about a mechanic near "Allah Hoo Chowk Johar Town" search for that thread and if you think he will be of some help then pay him a visit. Hope your problem will be solved soon.

The best way to start is go back to TOYOTA and just tell them to simply tune the car to original since CNG installer changed the tappet settings, just be honest. (Shouldn't cost much)

Then take it to some reliable CNG workshop and tune it on CNG, however ensure that all the emus/advancers are genuine and speak the same language, if one is speaking Spanish (Argentine) and other is speaking Italian (LANDIRENZO) then they will not understand each other and the CONFLICT will resurface.

I hope you understand, what I tried to explain.

    Cheers,
    Kaleem
