Thread: what is this, share your knowledge about ke70 (corolla 1982)

    Default what is this, share your knowledge about ke70 (corolla 1982)

    in my car there is something (pipe) which comes from manifold and goes in air intake, if i remove ;pipe and this black thing' which you can see in image, then hot air comes out of it and it sounds heavy..
    one mechanic tolds me it is semi-turbo, and he doesnot know any thing else about this.. (i mean some detail..), so plz tell me what is this, and what is the purpose of this device.....

    This means that u have corolla SE. because this is the TTC engine and the thing u are inquiring is part of that TTC (Toyota Total Clean) emission Control system, and this does not have any thing to do with TURBO ,
    This is installed in the path of blow pipe to reduce harmful emissions that can polute the atmosphere,
    However this system gives good performance and fuel efficency on Petrol,
    however on CNG it performance is a bit Tapped, and main issue in this fuel occurs at high RPM of the 2nd butter fly which disturb air and cng mixture when open on high RPM and our great mechanics disable the actuater that open the 2nd butterfly and the car will not run obove 110Km/HR or so on CNG.

    Not familiar with the car but this is probably a crankcase venting system...(reply above makes sense)

    As usual (unfortunately) your mechanics explanation is absurd to the core.....
    If there are no Beetles in heaven, Im not going!!!

    thnx alot joinami, you gave me great info, you talk about 2nd butterfly, as i remember 1-2 months ago, i go for tunning as car was not running smooth, mechanic adjust some thing below the carborator, and said, ur car's 2nd butter fly was opened, he closed it, and after then my car runs smooth but same problem as you said , it not go above 110-115, so, plz, tell me more about 2nd botterfly, and sorry for weak english

    and on another post you suggest me head of 3k on my 4k engine, as you are person with great info about this car, so i wanna ask you that 3k head is easily swap or not??

    its the fresh air inlet for the cat convertor - it adds additional oxygen to burn off the remaining unburnt hydrocarbons and makes the cat heat up faster.. The big square looking thing in the system is the reed valve..

    I remember this Twin Squish on my 82 corolla too. TTC engine came in all versions i.e DX, GL and SE.
    This was designed to control emissions as well as producing slightly more power through it so it is not a semi turbo but a part of semi turbo The mechanic was quite right. The standard engines had lesser power than TTC ones. However, to fix this, ask the mechanic about the mechanism and how to enable and disable it. Keep on experimenting with it and you will get optimal results within a week or so or you might have to disconnect the system totally and it would not do bad to the engine but your car will run faster on CNG. Can you post pictures of your car though?

    its just an emmissions reducing device to clean up the exhaust - it works off exhaust pulses in the exhaust manifold.. If the reed valve is corroded it becomes an exhaust leak into the air filter (bad)..

    ok, i will upload pics of my car within 1 or 2 days, but tell me which type of experiments you are saying, to do with this device..??
    and seriously i dont actually get what is 'semi-turbo'...
    either it is semi-turbo or not, that is other thing, but what he mean by semi-turbo.. ??

    hmmmm. thnx but what if I disconnect it, because my cars engine sounds little heavy due to this.. as 'Temojin' said, my car runs better on cng by disconnecting it..

    U can easily swap the heads of 4K with 3K, there are bolt on fit on each other.

    @Temojin ...bro i doubt that TTC come in DX, Coz i have a Dx that was euipped with Normal 4K also one of my friend have GL with normal 4k. Coz the main diffrence in GL and SE was of RPM meter,5 position seat adjustments, clutch rest,TTC engine ,Orignal alloys (Some SE appears with out alloys).

    that means you have a reverse leak into the air filter.. check the reed valve.. and yes it makes the engine sound a little hollow because the air filter housing resonates
