Default My 93' Corolla From New Zealand (AE100 JDM)

    Hey guys,

This is my 1993 Toyota Corolla SE Limited. It's a Japanese import and has all of the features you would expect out of Japan, except it's now a little different from a bog standard grocery getter

It was completely standard when I bought it, but I've done a number of mods to it over the last 5-years of ownership so far, including a 4A-GE 20v Blacktop swap at the end of 2012. I've almost reached my goal of finding every single optional extra that was available from new, including some of the rarest items, such as the AirFantasy fragrance control system.

This first post will remain updated with all of the current modifications and photos. To view updates in chronological order please scroll through the various posts below this one.

    The mods so far are:

You can view a lot of my non-automotive shots from Auckland in the Photography Thread here at PakWheels. My latest images that I took yesterday can be viewed by clicking here. The one on the left is a dimmer switch for the instrument cluster lights, and the one down the bottom is a little LED light for the alarm (flashes when armed).

I have always had a soft spot for these E100 corolla/ sprinters

I like the front bumpers and grill design of the JDM facelift models I.e 1995-1997 (the small turn signals coupled with the three bar grill) really sets apart the character of this car

Plus the White/red rear lamps with the matching garnish Look aces!

    Nice car and welcome aboard.

    thank you.

Thanks buddy. Personally I prefer the pre-facelift bumper that I've got, mainly since I don't really like the gap between the turn signals on the facelift type, the flare down the bottom is quite cool on the facelift version though. I also prefer the JDM "C" grille better due to the design. I've thought about using the three bar grille before, but then it would look too much like a the hatchback model from the front.

As for the rear garnish, I've thought about using the facelift white/red lamps, but decided that it was best suited to darker coloured Corollas (such as gunmetal grey or black). It looks ok on white cars, but I've never really liked how dark it goes in the middle, where it says "corolla". I guess it all comes down to personal preference

I'm currently deciding whether to go for the Koito crystal headlights off the non-BZ Touring wagon, or the Koito black housing headlights off the BZ Touring wagon (they're the same design, just that one has crystal reflectors and the other has black reflectors). I'd be interested to hear your opinion My 93' Corolla From New Zealand (AE100 JDM) - fing32

Thanks again My 93' Corolla From New Zealand (AE100 JDM) - 143

The non BZ-touring crystal headlights hands down.

It looks really good on White

I believe the actual part number is

    LENS >PC<
    Housing >PP-T20<
    Reflector >UP-M60-GF20<

    100-76613 koiTo JAPAN

and yeah you're right it's all down to personal preferences on these cars and with the selection of the BZ- touring, FX GT and sprinter bumpers, grills and headlights it is all down to the personal preferences and isn't really an exact science but a select few get the mixture just right.

    Thank you.

Thanks mate. I was leaning more towards the chrome version too . They're also a lot easier to find and a lot cheaper than the black version. The headlight lens number is 13-49 and the corner light lens number is 13-51 (the numbers are the same for both the black and chrome version).

Funny that you mentioned the FX-GT bumper, as I was considering getting one a little while ago, but decided against it as I didn't really like how wide the 'mouth' was, especially when fitted to a white car (see how fussy I am? My 93' Corolla From New Zealand (AE100 JDM) - 028). If I ever go for a 4A-GE with a turbo conversion then I'll probably get one though, as that mouth would come in useful for a front mount intercooler

Thank you! I've always liked the Toyota 'Super White' colour. So easy to keep clean. Nice and easy to find too if you ever need touch-up paint

Thanks a lot. The Australian spec Corollas are very similar, but I have to say that I much prefer the Japanese spec . If you're ever over here in New Zealand I'll take you for a ride

    @KiwiCorolla
no problem , and yes the chrome ones should be much easier to source and the black housing has been done to death almost every AE100 on cardomain.com has them and that kind of makes them less appealing

in a weird way I came across this picture in which the stock corners somehow rock the crystal headlights (different and interesting)

My 93 Corolla From New Zealand AE100 JDM -185499

and I know what you mean about the the whole wide mouth thing that the FX-GT bumper has going on, but good for placing an FMIC and if I were you i'd go for the whole 3S-GTE route if turbo route is preferred
but then again the cost $$$ and the work involved in it will probably let some people down

so a good 4A-GE turbo or even a 4A-GZE will do (opt for the C56 trans it is literally indestructable , I should know lol)

I really like these two bumpers very much!

    thank you.

Nice looking ride with tasteful mods and you've kept it in a very clean condition

I am not a big fan of HDR pics but in your car's case it does look nice.

@ saadzae92 - You are right about everyone using the BZ Touring headlights, especially the cheap eBay knock-offs. Thanks for the picture of the Corolla using the OEM corner lights. That actually looks nice. Maybe slightly duller than the headlights, but I like the look of them more than the wagon corner lights with the bright orange reflector inside.

Haha, I would love to go down the 3S-GTE route if I had the cash. My brother has an OEM 3S-GTE in his 1998 Toyota Caldina GT-T and it goes like a bat out of hell. Easily beats Evos etc and only has a Mine's ECU and cold air intake. Can only imagine what it would be like in my car since it weighs a lot less, although getting traction would be a struggle . I've seen it done a few times in the past, but apparently there was a lot of custom work involved. You may have heard of it, but Toyota released a very rare 'TRD 2000' Corolla AE101 model, which had a factory 3S-GE Beams engine in it. There are a couple of videos on YouTube. I have a couple of photos from the brochure if you haven't see it too.

Would definitely opt for the C56 transmission. The C160 is quite a lot weaker, and the ratios aren't as good. Easily to find a C56 too . Oh yes, I quite like that BZ touring wagon front bumper in that photo as well. I've never really been a fan of the US G Touring wagon bumper with the dual fogs though. Kind of looks like someone has done a simple copy and paste when designing it My 93' Corolla From New Zealand (AE100 JDM) - 028, but some people absolutely love them. It's been nice talking to you bro. Thanks a lot!! I'm glad you like my HDR photos. It's often hard to photograph white cars in bright sunlight, so the HDR process makes things a whole lot easier. Glad you like my car too
