Default What makes "Corolla 86" so special??

Dear Friends! I'm amazed to listen such type of remarks from mechanics/drivers etc " 86 Corolla ki kia baat hai"" " 86 Corolla k baad koi car us jesi nai ayee"" " car tu bus 86 corolla he hai"" and so on. I'm confused what special has in that car?? old model, old shape, poor CNG performance, poor brakes in current scenario etc etc.

86 Use to be a good car. But most of them are old now and in bad shape.

Spare parts are hard to find.

I use to own one that was not registered and fresh import I remember the drive and a/c of that car was very good.

I own 88 some what better than 86 but even this 88 tht is such a old car even drive and everything is very good.

Just needs a better engine. Only reason i dont like my car is 2E engine its driving me crazy (Even though its rebuilt and not eating one drop at oil change) but sadly cant afford swap as of now :p

    Actually i owned few corolla's.

1982. We bought this GL 1.3 Petrol from a airforce office back in 93 and it was aroundd 70 thousand driven as good as new. (use to give us 16 KMPL on highway with some TTC Engine)

1984. That car had a very bad engine i mean all sort of problems thats why it failed.

Own 2 86 corolla's one was SE Limited other was DX Saloon. SE was new fresh but i some how liked my DX more.

86 had very good suspension and for the 1st time Air Conditioner in corolla that really workd and with almost no load on engine.

bro the fact is that old cars are always better .u can check a civic eagle eyes and older civics they have excellent quality and drive but new civic is not up to the mark same like corollas ,indus corolla models were excellent and new 2010 model is also good and better than its previous model

Mechanics like it because they had to deal with 95% corolla, and very few other cars @ that time.
A good mistri was the one who was trained on corolla, cause it was the market leader of all cars.
1st Alto (Mehran) broke the market, but the real damage is done by civic after 95. Similarly after 2004 car imports were allowed, that also introduced hundreds of cars in Pakistan. they see so many variants even in corolla now.

So my friends now an ustaad cant just train a chota on 1 car they ve to be trained on muiltiple cars considering the advancements in engine science. and that cant be achieved with the level of education these guys have.this is too much for them!

so therefore they miss the good old days and cars!

    ^Well i wont agree here

Since Ive had cars like civic 86, 95, 96, 2005, reborn

and corolla 82,86, 98, 07 and new shape.

I think 86 is and was one great car!Given the chance id pick a 0meter 86 model over a cruisetronic everyday...question is whats so good about it?

Well firstly, the car has excellent grip, braking and a great ride. Body is very solid and i am amazed to know that it has bad cng avg, mine has great pick and avg, ac is great 2din player option and what not. Its one car which stick on the roads and runs fast. The 86 corolla is a great machine, simple design, engine and a very robust machine!

New shape[e has poor suspension and grip compared to it!

I remember when 86 corolla came, mechanics stopped us from selling 82 corolla and buying it because it was too weak and front wheel drive was hard to maintain Technologically advanced cars were never an option for our local mechanics. But today I see corolla 86 and marvel at its toughness. 86 was one great car with all one needed in that time with a newer style and shape. Today I went to a denter in order to get the brackets of my car's CNG cylinder inspected and there was this 86 corolla (white) standing and would you believe, not even a single piece of it was repainted or had any accident at all. Its body was so tough when I compared it with my civic 2000. I sat in its driving seat and its driving position is really good. I still remember its steering's shape which fascinated me while sitting in the passenger seat. And when I started to drive, it was so easy to manoeuvre while stability and braking was way better than other cars.

I would also say, corolla 86 ki kia baat hai.

I use to have one till 03..... my dad bought it brand new in 86 and till 03 it remained in the family it wz 185k genuine on clock without a single scratch on body... it is a nice car... very strong body but i wznt satisfied with its road grip.... it looses its rear end grip if u press brakes to hard... it happened with me a lot and my cousin had a reconditioned one in 98 and he suffered a severe accident as he applied brakes the car toppled upside down so ma experience is dat its road grip is nt too good. 88 corolla has much much better road grip thn the 86... i consider 88 corolla to be the most balanced car ever built by Toyota

I owned one corolla 86 (actually it was my dad's car but I put on about 75% of mileage out of 490k) for about 18 years (from Feb 1990 to Dec 2007) till one cold winter night, someone took it away from my drive way.
No doubt it was an amazing machine with reliability next to imagine in any new car. We kept many cars b4 and after this one but no other car can be so much reliable, easy to maintain, comfortable and yet strong and sturdy to serve us for more than 6 yrs.

Just to compare it wat currently I've (City 05 iDSI), corolla 86's clutch plate was replaced after 250k KM's, in city, I changedthe whole pressure/clutch plate set at merely 120k. (Even then Honda pitstop guy told me that I've driven much more carefully as an avg mileage for cluch plate of iDSI is around 80-100k.)
The defogger of a 5 yr old city is no more working (it started with 2 circuits gone bad after just 2 yrs -entire defogger gone out of operationby this year) while the defogger of my beloved old corolla 86 was perfectly working till the time, it departed us in 2007 after 21 yrs of life. No point even discussing about the cheap plastic in today's cars. No doubt I still miss it....!

Well! it's said that newer models are technologically better and improved than older ones and usually the defects in older ones are removed in newer models. Then why a 24 year old model is better than newer models??

Well.....no doubt the newer cars are technologically advanced than a 24 yr old car......the engines are far better in terms of efficiency, emissions, power etc. the body is much lighter and safer but just imagine the paint of a 24 yr old car better than the new cars. Similarly the interior dash board , road grip and braking of that 24 yr old car is better than a 2010 model. Even the engine didn't require any maintenance except oil change for long periods and the fuel consumption is also comparable to today's cars.

When we say older cars were better, we in no way want to disregard the technolgically advancements new cars have, but I personally feel the overall quality of new cars have deteriorated considerably and therefore I still miss Corolla 86's and 88's.

Sir AE80 was one of the best Corolla's because no other manufacturer was even close to Corolla at that time.

Levin, Sprinter, Trueno SR-5 and GT-S were the best ever Corolla's ever made and will remain the best for coming future.

They had a vast lineup of engines and body shapes to cater all motorists.

The Title of best overall Corolla of its time is still held by E100 (Indus Corolla).
