Nowadays, many cars are coming with such ports for fixing cables to fix any problem in the ECU or any other computer unit in the car.

Just attach the cable to a laptop, check for any malfunctioning and fix the problem with the help of a suitable software.

But I am surprised to see the port as it is quite similar to that of a dot matrix printer. If the car has to have a cable port then it must have been a universal port as avilable with noadays computers.

    Strange....

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but this looks like the OBDC connecter. You can connect to this port and get diagnostic information for the cars engine etc...

It must be for CNG Switch

On-Board Diagnostic systems are in most cars and light trucks on the road today. During the '70s and early 1980's manufacturers started using electronic means to control engine functions and diagnose engine problems. This was primarily to meet EPA emission standards. Through the years on-board diagnostic systems have become more sophisticated. OBD-II, a new standard introduced in the mid-'90s, provides almost complete engine control and also monitors parts of the chassis, body and accessory devices, as well as the diagnostic control network of the car.

this port is also there in an altis too

almost similar port same location is also present in my daewoo. thats for sure for diagnostics as the dealer used to tune the car using it gives such details as charging voltage , dwell angle, emission level through an exhaust sensor , engine tempreture, time when should engine fan start, RPM etc etc.

Thanks everyone for your help. I noticed this today after 16 months since I had the car. Also felt the connector side to check if it was just a socket or had some wires attached to it. There were wires connected to it. I hope some more rolla owners who have seen mechanics use this connector for diags can shed more light

this is the place where the workshop guys connect their computer ... to monitor all engine parameters and fix them if reqd ..

if u have the time ... u can stand with the workshop person while he gives ur car a periodic check ... 5000, 10000 km check etc ... and u will know for urself ...

In my case it was not done at 5k and 10k kms checkups. I think they wouldn't fiddle with it unless some compalints are made by drivers for any problem in engine or missing etc.
