It is good to see the rebuttal, but in most likelihood, the gas crisis is going to worsen during the coming winter. Especially in Islamabad, where people are forced to use heaters, the situation becomes pathetic. During last winter, I bought an LPG stove which helped in getting the meals in time. I got two electric geysers in my house to have water at appropriate temperature. During my two decade stay in Islamabad, I have never used gas heater. And, it seems pretty sure that during the coming winter, CNG will become a forlorn memory in our minds.

Even if there is a rebuttal from the official sources, there is no hope that the gas crisis will averted/ eased during the season.

And, regarding the news item, Dawn has lot of credibility for bringing authentic news to the consumers.
Yes Sattar bhai, I also posted the rebuttal on my facebook where I shared the link from Dawn. I hope the government really means it and we do not have CNG shut downs more than 2 and half days. In the past the govt has not contradicted such stories, but this time they have done it swiftly. May be Dawn story was true and the proposal was floated, but when it got to the print, they decided to deny it.

It is not us the car owners, but general public who travel by public transport are affected the worst both financially and physically as on CNG holidays most of the public transport is grounded and people cannot commute to and from their workplaces. One of our office boys now stays at night at office during CNG holidays as there are no vans plying from his area to office.

I am also using LPG in kitchen now as in the process of getting a domestic gas connection, but once I get it, I am also going to keep the LPG cylinder and stove.
Be polite on the road. Always give way to others, particularly ambulances and pedestrians.

The energy situation is serious. We need to look at alternative means.

Couple of years back, I went to Kathmandu and it was shocking to see that the capital of Nepal remained 20 hours without electricity ... during my week long stay there, power was available from 8pm to midnight, or from midnight to 4 am.... it was barely enough time to charge the batteries of our cameras and cell phones. We carried two pocket torches at all times.

I am seriously planning to handle the energy nonsense, .. and it is surely going to worsen during the coming winter. InshaAllah, I am going to have solar water heater. LPG cylinders are a blessing, but for using on our regular cooking range, we need to change the nozzles ... so I am going to use second cooking range on LPG.

I spent this evening at Metro looking at generators. The Diesel generators have higher running cost, so probably I am going to choose Dual fuel generator which can work during winters when gas pressure falls down drastically.

InshaAllah, I am planning to have a house of my own in the coming year of so .. and i plan to use GeoThermal energy for mild airconditioning ..

    We must prepare ourselves ...

Sajjad Bhai it is a matter of cost/ benefit analysis... on the face of it, CNG is a cheaper fuel .. but its availability and possible damage to the engine must be looked into.

Now, it all depends upon your use ... If you drive a lot, then surely, CNG would be a good option to consider ... meaning thereby that GLi Ecotec is a good option.

I bought my car last year when the option of 1.6 L engine was not there ... however, if I have to choose now, I would go for Altis 1.6 AT/SR .. ... and certainly no CNG!

@dms664; 1.6L Altis M/T is better than 1.3L; not just in terms of engine power; but surprisingly in fuel efficiency as well....

Forget about CNG; there is not that much difference...total cost of ownership is more or less the same...

I am not fond of sunroof .. which is a total wastage of money in a hot country like Pakistan ... but my consideration was that the Altis AT/SR model comes with rain sensor .. that is all

of course MT gives better mileage .. but I expressed my view ... If I go for 1.6 version then I would prefer to go for AT model ... Just my thinking.

I did not mention 1.6 GLi with Auto tranny because it lacks some bells and whistles available in Altis

Sajjad Bhai ... I dont have first hand knowledge about AT models in GLi and Altis range. However, I checked out the Altis AT/SR at Toyota dealership and I liked it.

I am sure mileage is not much of an issue. The new 1.6 engine is a lot more fuel efficient than the previous 1.8 version.

I have no more attraction for CNG .. when it is not available for three days a week, what's the use of carrying around excess load in the car.

Well I have Civic....but this is ground reality; Corolla has the best built quality in Pakistan....and I am going for one next year. (Not replacing Civic but will replace dad's SE Saloon with Altis insha-Allah as a gift to him)

If there are any issues regarding fitting problems, then the same can be taken care of under warranty.
