Question Tapered Settings on Corolla 2007

Correction: Tappet Settings on Corolla 2007

I had a question in mind which I have asked the Car mechanics but non of them were able to provide a reasonable answer. Do we need Tappet setting on Corolla 2007 where few of the mechanics says that it automatically adjusts its self where few of the mechanics says that they can do it but would require lot of work from KHARADIA and cost would be above Rs 1500 and it is not as simple as that of Honda and remaining cars.

    1) Point is do we really need it
    2) Does anyone has any experience with this
    3) Car mileage is above 80,000 km

No doubt, its is must thing in all other cars

Brother if you follow the following link, you'll clearly see that XLI 2007 engine (2NZ-FE) has hydraulic tappets (item 13751). These dont need to be adjusted periodically. They automatically adjust based on engine requirements.

    http://img.partscat.ru/new/auto/L/7c...7949c09d6a.png

But there is a catch, over the passage of time, they do get clogged (because they operate on engine oil). Or may be the spring inside them looses its tension. So you normally have to service them in that case.

Note: With hydraulic tappets, KHURRAD work is only required if they get jammed totally. This can happen due to end of their running life. Or not changing the oil in time. Anyways their problem can be identified based on engine noise and their actual condition when u open up the engine.

The meachnic opens up the engine, removes these tappets, dips them in mobile oil and sqeezes them, they should plunge and extend when he removes the force. In that case, only their service with patrol would be enough. No khuraadia stuff.

    Hope it helps.

    and to your questions

    A) You only need their service or replacement when they pose a problem. No regular maintenance required

    B) Havnt done it in XLI, but have done their service in an other car of mine.

    C) Again if its above 80K, let it be if its running fine.

    Dear All,

First of all, sorry that was my mistake as its suppose to be tappet not tapered settings. Secondly only reason I posted this topic was that I felt that since I have done these setting Honda and Suzuki so it must be a compulsory thing for Corolla 2007. I have experience a better mileage in Honda and Suzuki after these setting where as I believe that Corolla is now showing same results as it’s a bit high on fuel consumption. Everything is in perfect order, tuning, oil changes were on time, air filters are replaced after every 10 k along with plugs and oil filter at every 5k but sometime I feel that car is heavy and engine noise is more then that of Honda and Suzuki. Like once I accelerate the Corolla 2007 then its sounds like ZUNZUN where is comparatively more than other cars and looks like some sort of load on the engine.

I have consulted many mechanics and non of them have not given the reasonable answer. Some says that these cars don’t need it at all and where few are more the happy to do it without finding out even if it needs it and present a big bill in front of us. At least we can open and cross check the settings with the usual blade if it’s alright. Which gives customers a peace of mind that its alright and car make is such that its suppose to be like this or we can look for alternate reason if any.

Thanks for your replies as it would really help and would appreciate further comments.
