    Default Altis Cruisetronic RPM issue

    I was testing something today and noticed some odd behavior of the RPM of my Altis. Specifically, when I brake and come to a stand still, the RPM increases a little (100rpm), then drops (100rpm) and then increases again (100-150rpm). I have attached a video and this can be seen from 42 secs till 47 secs (ignore the abrupt jump in RPM in the end as I was pushing the acc.)

    Can someone tell me what this issue can be? Faulty throttle sensor? Also I feel that throttle is quite sensitive e.g. as you can see in the vid on a couple of instances, the RPM jumps on even a very slight push of acc.

    The car in question is a 2010 Altis Cruisetronic and has done 40k km. I will be taking it to Toyota in a day or two for the complete 40k checkup and fluid/parts replacement.

    EDIT: Ignore everything above. As it turns out, it is perfectly normal. Checked with Toyota mechanics and also drove another Altis cruisetronic and its normal. As of now, the focus of the thread is on periodic maintenance only.

    just try one thing... when your car is idealing.. start pumping the brake pedal.... if the rpm needle starts to fluctuate then this is just because of the hydrallic brake system.. no major problem..it happens.. but if the needle doesnt fluctuate then its a problem of your throttle body....

    @mani1...i just noticed the same rpm behaviour on my altis n it has done 500km so it does not have anything to do with a dirty throttle body etc...what i noticed is that this behaviour is particularly pronounced when the ac is on...switch of the ac and then brake...the rpm needle won't do the funky dance

    also...if u brake gradually and not try n stop instantly...the needle will come down smoothly..so it is just some internal hydraulic system in place to stop the rpm from dropping too far below

    regards

    I just came back from Toyota dealership after getting the 40k maintenance done. Good thing is that the RPM issue is not an issue. I confirmed from their mechanics plus also drove a 1000km Altis Cruisetronic which exhibited same behavior.

    Also got the 40k maintenance done. Total Cost was 31k and this does not includes rear brake pads (which I got serviced instead of replacing) and no A/C service although it does includes 4L Mobil 1 and Rs. 4000 worth of Hi-Octane. Never knew maintenance would be this expensive. I will post details later

    @mani

    I didn't see the video but from your description, I think its somewhat the same behavior as of XLi/GLi. Let me briefly tell the problem which I faced.

    During night time driving especially, Whenever I apply brakes and then press clutch to change the gear (either in moving car or at dead stop), the RPM drops to around 600 and car vibrates and then RPM goes a little bit above idle position and then come back to normal. The problem is there during day time but to very less extent.

    I contacted IMC and got an inspection at Toyota Walton but problem was still there. Then after some thinking, I install two grounding wires; 1 from battery to chassis and 2nd from chassis to engine block. Now the problem is very much eliminated.

    But I think you already have grounding wires in your car.

    Thanks and do let us know if you find any solution to this problem.

    no this isn't the behavior that was depicted in the video. Anyways it is not a problem as confirmed by testing another vehicle, megatrons testimonial and talking to toyota mechanics. They gave me a detailed explanation which i cant reproduce here.

    Talking about your specific GLi problem, i am guessing you got the throttle body serviced rite? If yes, get your ECU reset (by unplugging ecu jack) and this problem should disappear

    They didn't open the throttle body. just removed the air intake hose and cleaned the butterfly. And now the problem is very much solved. Now the drop occurs occasionally and that two very little.

    Is your idle stable? Both with A/c on and off?

    Without AC idle is stable. With AC, I have to check it because I didn't start using AC yet. I'll check it and let you know. But without AC its stable. Car is on Petrol 15k driven.

    Facing same problem with my gli 09. I have recently bought it, It has done 57k almost, whenever the clutch is pressed along with braking on stops or even in idling the rpm drops to 600and then rush back to a little above that. The vibration that is produced in the progress is quite irritating.

    Waiting for response from fellow members.

    @iamadee, umer91 & all others who are facing any RPM issue on GLI/XLI

    This thread is not about the RPM issue common on XLI/GLI. It is about a certain RPM behavior on a 1800cc Altis Cruisetronic (triptronic transmission) which is completely different from what you guys face on GLI/XLI . I have confirmed from various sources including Toyota mechanics, other Pakwheelers testimonials, and test driving another Altis cruisetronic that this behavior is not an anamoly and is due to electronic throttle.

    If any of the GLi/XLi owners are facing any RPM issue, it is an electronics issue and can be solved by a bigger battery OR better grounding. Also whenever you get your throttle body serviced, get the ECU reset.

    @all

    The following work was done on my Altis today at 40k maintenance

    1)Engine Tune up & Diagnostic using OBD (also commonly known as IT or computer)
    2)Spark plug change
    3)Air filter Change
    4)ATF Chamber & ATF Filter Service
    5)ATF replaced with ATF-WS 4L (as per manual and markings on stick)
    6)Toyota Injector Cleaner
    5)Engine Oil replaced with Mobil 1 4L Fully synthetic + Oil filter replaced
    6)Rear brake Pad service
    7)New Front brake pads
    8)Coolant replaced with Toyota Coolant
    9)Brake Oil changed
    10)Cabin A/C Filter service
    11)Throttle Body service

    Total cost was 27k and add 4k for Full tank of Hi-octane so total amount spent today was 31k. If you think any other maintenance work is required do let me know

    @Jz

    Yar thanks for your time today. I asked Toyota guys but Altis does not has any fuel pump. Instead it has some suction pump sort of thing like on mark x and is to replaced only after 100,000km

    Were the highlighted items (front brake pads and brake oil) also changed previously or they are changed for the first time? From which dealership, you get the maintenance work done?

    As for the drop issue. I also think that it is related to electronic throttle body and to be specific may be its feedback controller unit. But I didn't get into details of this thing.
