If you're not too comfortable with turbo, put in a dry nitrous oxide kit and turn up the diesel a bit. Granted, without nitrous, it'll smoke like a pig everytime you stand on the throttle, but as soon as you get the nitrous going, it should pull pretty hard, and the smoke should clear up.

On second thought, go with the turbo, it's more sustainable, and wouldn't necessitate a fill-up of the nitrous oxide.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but since we are discussing diesels am posting my query here

Xulfiqar - Any suggestions for a 300D OM617 in the context being discussed? Any performance enhancements possible on the old lady?

you have to loosen up the ALDA on the pump and then also work the vacuum modulator and bowden cable to adjust the shifting points and softness of the transmission.

The 617 will pull pretty nicely. Being in Pakistan its not very uncommon to see badly adjusted valve clearances on diesels, It would be beneficial to buy two spanners and have them bent by a welder to adjust the valves properly - DO NOT USE straight spanners as it may break off a valve guide (you wont like it)

so - first things first, check valve clearances, check pump timing and timing chain wear and verify nozzle break pressure.

Everything good, now you can work the pump and tinker with boost

i doubt if there is an ALDA on a non turbo 617?

any pointers on fixing the pump timing?

the valves yes were done with bent spanners and are perfect at the moment, thanks to the x-shahnawaz mechanic who has worked on these ladies for a good number of years.

    bara bara shehzada hai yahan!!

    My question!
Will 2c need an intercooler or little boost on diesels run fine without one?
I mean they already operate on relatively higher temperature than petrol engines.

oh - youve got the oldschool one - sorry no ALDA for you, good that your mechanic has a set of bent spanners and not a couple of straight snappers.

the pump timing can be checked by either drip or bubble method, I'll have to look up what is the correct timing for your engine.

youve got it backwards - 2C runs way cooler than its petrol counterpart, infact every diesel runs cooler than its petrol version.

the turbo required for this is a smallish (IHI RHB5 VF10 turbo) running a max of 9 or 10 psi boost, (no cooling needed unless you are running a microscopic sized turbo charger)

    Damn myths...
I have heard it from many mechanics that, "deezal garam enjan hota hai".
    Thanks for clearing it up.

@Xulfiqar - I have been trying to read up on the two methods in order to have them performed accurately. any material that you could direct me towards on the two methods, posted by you, would be highly appreciated. if not much trouble could you please look up the correct timing req. for the OM617? please take your time and kindly drop me a pm - needless to say i would be grateful.
