If theres a problem with the O2 sensor, it wont show on the OBD, but it can be guaged by fluctuation of RPM which can not be set. It can only be reset. Fluctuation of RPM (on OBD) should not be more than 100-150rpm

the battery thing will not work on your car - you need the K line active on the OBD port to signal the check light to turn off and the ECU go to self learn mode again.

There is a procedure that is applicable from DLC involving shorting of pins in it, but I would not recommend it, not that I dont know but I dont trust everyone to be careful with it. Thats why the handy scanner works fine. Any good workshop will scan it for you and switch off the light if its a glitch issue.

When I was dealing open business I would connect the scanner to every vehicle that rolled in having a DLC port. Its the correct way and easier too. If the scanner was too tied up I did the DLC port box extender technique myself.

Sounds like you have used contaminated petrol. try using high octane from a reputable fuel outlet. engine light stays on if CO2 sensor or emission control vavle is clogged up it could be due to number of reason, in your case it sounds like fuel. After running car on high octane atleast 20 liters, light should go off if it is fuel related if not let toyota company handle the problem. I hope this helps.

Removing battery terminals and putting them back after a minute or so is known as "trying to reset ECU" but may not solve your problem. A better way is to get ECU reset by OBD.

I don't think you O2 sensor is giving the problem, with 20k on odometer it is noy likely to give away.

Think of the wires and parts that included in your car's service and you'll find the answer. For example, the plug socket is a long black plastic thing and it contains a coil in it, when it is tightened with excessive force the plastic part cracks and current jumps (this is a very common workshop error).

Please do not over speed your (keep it 100 kmph or bellow) car while engine check light is on. Use google for details

The OBDII also monitors the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system, but only once during a drive cycle. The purpose here to detect leaks that allow fuel vapors to scape into the atmosphere.OBDII odoes this by applying vacuum or pressure to the fuel tank, vapor lines and charcoal canister. If OBDII detects no air when the evap canister valve is opened or it detects a leak rate that greater than that which would pass through a hole, which is the size of a pin *****, check engine light will on.Finding the leak could be a challenge.
Some times if petrol tank's cap not properly tight or seated can be cause for leak, loose or damaged fitting can allow enough air to leak to set a code.

Pull up the error codes and as well as the freeze frame data with a suitable diagnostic computer to address the actual problem.
