well i aint a user of both... but i have been through the same situation... im more inclined towards vti oriel...
well as per my information... Altis 1.6L is giving around 14/ 15 km/L in city with AC... and up to 18 and even 19 on high ways...
whereas oriel is giving around 8 or 9 km/lt in city and up to 11 on highways...
NOTE: These figures are shared from the reviews and experiences of users of both cars... i personally havent experienced it..
BUT i believe there have been so many other factors that make Oriel superior to Altis in every way.. this is my personal opinion...

I have 1.6 SE Saloon and it scarcely achieves more than 11Km/ltr, even city 1.3 manual that is well known for its fuel efficiency cant do it without hypermiling. I don't know what Toyota has improved in 1.6 Altis but it seems dubious to me.

    instantaneous avg can be unreliable.

Civic 1.8 gives well above 13.5 on highway with AC if driven on 120-140 which i think is 'okay' for a 1.8.

Since the OP is very much concerned regarding 'fuel consumption' which means Civic 1.8 is definitely not his cup of tea.

my experience with altis 1.8sr cruisetronic(not 1.6) and honda civic vti prosmetic

    Honda Civic :
    Extremely beautiful interior and exterior
    Pleasureable drive
    Good handling
    Good brakes
    Great AC
Milage not so good and really sucks in city
Suspension is alot stiffer than corolla
Steering Control is v rigid(non-electronic) as compared to corolla
    Spare parts very very Costly

    Corolla Altis 1.8
Consumption is good gives a very good milage above 16km/l on highways(the 1.6 version would be really better)
Suspension is alot good as compared to civic
Very Very Very Soft electronic steering control (this is the first thing u will notice as a big difference among both cars soon u sit on driver seat)
Good road grip and Drive has more options. Cruise Control, Triptronic Transmission (both auto and manual)
AC is nothing as compared to that of Civic
leather seats but civic seats are still better
As a car a good car but not very beautiful since there is alot of amount you pay for it
Spareparts are common and inexpensive but still not cheap

brother cc's are just same but if u consider technology there is as much difference as betweens a mehran engine and ur se saloon.
because new atlis 1.6 engine is dual vvti a first dual vvti sedan in pakistan. dual vvti engines are known for their fuel efficeiny. most of the japense cars are using this technology and their averages are far more better

You need to go through reviews regarding fuel economy by AK471... I myself was astonished to hear that... But every user is claiming so...

Well if it's true, hats off to Toyota's breakthrough technology.
I always thought Honda's engines were more fuel efficient.

This appears to be more realistic.

the new corolla being a 6 speed should help in economy theoratically because in the top gear the rpm will be lower as compared to a 5 speed civic, but in reality alot of things contribute to the milage

there is a difference b/w reviews n keeping one. reset the meter drive with a light foot and 4k cc thing will give u 14km/l but when u drive it for few hundred kms it goes down. when i take my foot off the paddle altis 1.8 gives 99.99km/l till the car is moving ,do u agree with that?

Civic vti oriel prosmatec consumption is max 9km/l in city.
On highways it gives 12-13km/l with AC on. (personal experience).
Haven't checked 1.6L altis fuel consumption. But 1.8L consumption is 10-11km/litre in city and 13-14 on long routes(manual transmission). with very light foot.
