Default Toyot 2.0D Hot Starting Issue

    Dear Pak wheel members,
I have Toyota corolla 2.0D 1998 model (indus), in the morning when I turn the key to start after the heater time finishes the car starts like awesome but when the car is hot after running few miles and if I stop at any shop and start without waiting for heater time the car takes more crankings and then starts also cranking is not strong, battery is new and maintained,
2nd thing if in hot condition I wait for heater timer to finish and wait more 2 seconds then car starts better. what is the problem and in which sequence I should check the things?

Injectors had been replaced with genuine Denso injectors, pump was tested by a Diesel lab and they reported it is as good as new. The mileage on my car is about 200,000kms and offcourse there is blowby but there is not black/white or blue smoke and the car pick up is like I can easily catch many Xlis and Glis.

Caterpillar have the advanced injector pump 'tuning' centre in lahore. Ask around last I remember they were located near Volvo plant. They may ask you to remove the pump so when you return with tuned pump don't let any 'monkey' fiddle with it seals and get the diesel engine roaring.

Diesel Power systems are excellent in their service but I dont know if they will setup denso systems. Once done - they will strictly instruct on the timing of the pump when its installed on the engine.

Regarding the Hot Start issue, I have a 2C as well.

I drive 2km (warms up the engine enough) to bring and pick-up my son in school (in slow Manila traffic), park and wait for about 8 to 12 minutes before I go home, and I start my 2C without waiting for the glow to off, starts ok..

The glow thing in the manifold is a current dropping resistor, not a plug - and you have just burnt some good money by buying scrap junk glow plugs, Always replace with new genuine parts, Denso, HTK, NGK make good glow plugs for this engine.

The CSD plunger needs to work and the timing needs to be set with a dial gauge to ensure the engine timing is always correct, this ensures reliable startup everytime.

Can anybody know about any good diesel mechanic or workshop around Lahore where people use Dial gauge to set the pump timing. please share as I could not find during my short vacation.

I serviced the starter motor , checked the movement of CSD plunger during hot and cold(found fine), but still I am not happy with hot starting of my 2.0D.

I have a dream to start a brand new 2012 model toyota 2.0D to see the difference.
we should be proud of safe driving.

    Thanks for reply

TBH I visited about 6 mechanics and all said OH. As soon I heard that word I left their shop. So answer to your question no.

Can you please guide me like in steps what should I specifically ask the mechanics to check and replace instead of complete OH. Also to order them to check what we ask them not to show their 150 years of experience. I hope understand the local ustads mentality.

    Thanks

I,ve read all the threads and very informative posts by Xulfiqar bhai and imran2d.
I recently sold my Vitz 2010 and bought Corolla diesel 2000 model. It is 1st hand with very good engine sound and smooth drive and the power of diesel is awsome.
Its my first experience with diesel and i,ve become fan of diesel engine now.

I am also facing the same hot starting issue as quoted by imran2d.

Can the faulty glow plugs be a reason of hot start issue or multiple cranks.?

I checked glow plugs of my car and they took approx 8-10 secs to full glow.. is it Normal or should i replace them.

it takes 6 sec for plugs to fully glow for my 2002(newer shape) 2.0d saloon and it starts in half self after that no matter if engine is cold or it is 1-2 degree c(coldest nights of Sialkot). hot starts need about 3 sec of glow to start in half self if the engine temp is dropped around 30% or a slightly longer self(2-3x to what we call a half self).
