Question Power and Acceleration when Cold, dies down when hot - XLI 2006

    Aoa Pakwheelers,

I feel my XLI 2006 has more power, smooth engine noise and feel when it's cold.

But when warm the engine feels weak. It feels as if the car is struggling to accelerate. Overall feel of the car is like having very old engine in heavy body.

This is felt more in city driving. Highway Driving is Far Better.

    What could be the problem????????

I am willing to spend money to fix this, even if I have to change major engine parts.

The car has done almost 200 000 kms.

    Many thanks for the help.

what maintenance schedule you have on the vehicle with 200,000 km. All above points by fellow member post have significant affect on vehicle performance.

The car is maintained at Toyota Dealership.

They have not done tappet adjustment.

But all others things that are mentioned here are done regularly.

So, could it only be a problem of Tappet adjustment?

I forgot to mentioned that this car has good mileage per litre. .

It does 11-12 KM/Litre in City and 15 - 16 KM KM/Litre on GT Road.

u cannot adjust tappets of XLI
the whole head has to be taken apart if the car troubles(usually cng XLI's facing iddling problems undergo through that)

and talking about the sensors, if the check light is functional and switches of after engine start, nothing to worry about.
Life is short and very unpredictable just like a Quarter mile .....

Check catalytic converter (if it is there with this particular model of xli)

Dirty T.B. may be a cause.

Check if power steering goes hard as well alongwith power degradation ?

Sometimes, power steering does not seem to be smooth and light.

Throttle body is serviced at regular intervals from Toyota Walton.

Assuming regular maintenance of power steering (oil level, leakage etc)

If the steering is light when you start the car in the morning and goes on heavier as you face engine power issues ?

if yes than it can be issue of steering rack valves, which puts load on power pump and hence on engine, but you need to diagnose it carefully.

I have not observed steering that closely.

But many thanks for the tip. I am taking the car to Toyota on Sunday. Let's see what they say about it.
