Check belt tension, leakage around the pump and look for any loose hoses or hoses with kinks that may cause the obstruction.
By the sound of it, its just probably crap in either your steering box or the pump. Have both purged (bled) and check again for ailment. While you're at it, have the pump pressure tested as well. It should be okay as long as there;s no whrring sounds when turning the wheel but just in case.

Was that first time you noticed the problem? If "NO", were there any sounds heard before like Screeching(belt problem) or Roaring (Pump/Fluid problem), if "YES", do you hear any of the above sounds (problems already mentioned).

Also do check for the steering box, steering lock and steering column for any possible problem.

Did the Oil or battery light appear when this happened?

If so, the thing that makes the pressure is not working. Check the oil quantity, check for any loose belts and get them tightened.
If still the problem persists, get ur car's pulleys replaced with new ones.

Also, DO NOT OVERFILL THE PUMP WITH OIL.

There might be a problem with the steering box or the universal linkages (cross) might be problematic.

While a few of the potential reasons are mentioned above by other members, here is a more comprehensive list of what might be causing the problem.

    1) Low tire pressure
    2) The wheels are out of alignment
    3) The power steering box or rack or power steering pump is bad. You can repair or replace..whatever needed
    4) The fluid level in the power steering reservoir is low (atleast at 100K, you should replace the fluid..regardless if its full or not)
    5) The power steering drive belt is damaged or broken.
    6) The steering gear needs to be lubricated or repaired.

I cant think of anythng else....but if you go through this list...i am sure you will diagnose the problem..GOod luck.

    Hello!
make sure belt was tight enough.......looks like pump was making trouble here.....also chances of rack joint.....but less.....its all upto pump........i think you can check that by starning your engine and see that inside reservior oil was moving or not........oil pressure might seen by you if any......
if its there.......might check for rack......
listen same about one's Corolla......his pump oil line was blown but in that case all oil got to ebe drained out......you have oil........so it means its some other stuff.....check that either pump is working or not.....

You might like to try out Haji Ishaq on the Daewoo road. He's been with Toyota since the past twenty years and is currently running his own worshop in Pindi. His numbers are 5471350 & 03335108847. By the way, Spectra is the one who reffered me to him.
