Default putting my Corolla Altis Crusetonic in Reverse at 130 KM/Hr

Today while going on the motorway my children were switching their seats back and fourth. Result of which was that one of them got his feet tangled into the automatic gear and switched in into Reverse !
As i had my eyes on the road i hear a reverse warning sound (activated when reverse gear is activated) with R on the speed dial.
At that moment i kinda got confused as my car was doing nearly 130 Km and seeing the R on the speed dial was literally like having all the air out of my lungs. I quickly put it back into N and then D... and wola nothing happened...
After this incidence i realized that this is a big safety feature in modern cars which protect the car mechanics when they detect that a wrong action on part of the driver is ignored otherwise my gear box would have simply dropped on the road !
well hats off to the japs for designing such a feature... not sure if Civic has it... but advice not to try it

You only live once, so stay hungry stay foolish !

strange very very strange how come it slipped without Shifter-button (the shinny metal button on shift lever) being pushed. Visit Toyota and get the shifter checked. It should have not slipped at ALL

Driving at 130 Km/hr and kids switching seats back n forth?
Passengers are not even supposed to unfasten seat belts when the vehicle is moving, specially at such high speeds.
Its high time to teach some manners to your kids.

In Altis cruisetronic there is no Shifter lock button.

Doesnt Altis CT has zig zag path for its stick? Like it is specifically designed to prevent such incidents since the level just cant go back and forth when ever any unwanted pressure is applied.

As for Civic. One has to take it out of shift lock and PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL to engag the reverse gear. I wounder how come Altis lacks this feature.

    Not a big deal.
Which every car you have throw it in reverse at what ever speed you are at nothing will happen. You will just hear the grinding sound. Even try it in a manual. Nothing happens.

Maybe if you do it daily for months then you will see some affect on transmission other wise not a big deal.

its physically impossible to shift into R while moving forward in excess of 20 km/h , the valve body has a locking feature that prevents this in hydraulic transmissions and electronic and cable systems in others requiring you to physically stop the car and have the brake pedal depressed for it to work.

What you might have seen is just the R light flashing and the reminder tone because it might have tripped the shift contact switch on the shift lever and the trans must have been in neutral.

btw, children should be seat belted while car is going at 130km.

yr so lucky yr in Pk and got by doing so. very bad show,, to top that you talking about it in open public.

in some countries you can get big fine and licence suspension warnings if children are without seatbelts.

Correctly said.....same was once demonstrated in mythbusters on Discovery channel when they took two cars one with auto tranny and one with manual, auto tranny didn't allowed to be put in reverse while going forward due to some internal safeties and in the manual case the sound from the grinding gears was heard showing that the gears will not engage properly until the car is stopped.

I have noticed yet another safety feature in both D15B gearbox that you can't directly shift from 5th gear down to reverse, so no need to worry abt engaging reverse when coming down from 5th to 4th.

    Regards
