    Default Corolla 86 Meter Lights

I have Toyota Corolla 1985. Since a couple of days I have been facing a problem that one of the four indicators in its meter keeps ON even after ignition. I can't figure out what does it mean since the text on this particular indicator is in Japanese.
The indicator is shown in the photo attached to this message.
If anyone knows what does it stand for, kindly reply.

    Thanks alot brother.
I don't know whats the link between this and my car's heating; the problem is since the time this light has been indicating even after ignition, I have been facing heating problems along with this and also the sound from the car's silencer has also changed. What is the link between these ?
    Thanks.

    Default Confused!

I did not exactly get you bro, please elaborate.
Look, let me tell you the whole story from the beginning. I had been running my 85 corolla WITHOUT an 'exhaust catalytic converter' since a long time. The car was running fine except some extra engine sound. I went to a silencer welder and asked him for a solution to that extra engine sound. He told me your car is missing this exhaust catalytic converter in its exhaust system; so I asked him to install it. After getting it install I have been facing the following problems:

    • Its indication in the meter keeps ON even after ignition
    • The engine gets heated after 20-30 kms drive in city(the radiator is also reducing water)
    • Lower Mileage!

I re-visited the silencer welder from where I got it installed and he said the exhaust system is working FINE and I should see an engine mechanic to get these issues fixed!
I am confused where to go now and what to do :s
Please Help if you get my issue and know how to resolve it.
    Thanks.

The system works opposite to normal - closed circuit means the system is good, open means the system is bad. meaning that please check the wire that goes to the heat switch, if its disconnected or burnt or the sensor is bad then the light will not go out.

For your overheating problem, check the water pump and cooling system for integrity, you should also closely inspect the main crank pulley damper for wear and damage, if its worn out and loose your engine will heat up as the water pump rpms are slowed down.

p.s. I am believing you have a 2E engine in your car.

Would you recommend removing catalytic converter from 2E engine which has 200,000 km on it. what would be the impact?
