Default 1N compressor in my JDM corolla

    aoa
I recently got the engine changed in my 1994 JDM Toyota Corolla. Now it has a healthy 5afe under the hood however its A/C is terrible. An A/c specialist here in Rawalpindi advised me to install a 1N compressor in the car. Can nyone plz tell the difference b/w a normal denso compressor in 5afe engine and a 1n compressor??? In which car does a 1N compressor come factory fitted?

First diagnose its a Compressor issue than Hmm Dont know about 1n but if this 1N is Denso 15 Number 5 Piston compressor than go for it. It costs around 6500Rs now a days.

Otherwise ask them for 15 Number Piston wala denso compressor :p. But in terms of performance this one performs very very very well.

Look like this. The 5 studs type things at the back shows compressor's 5 pistons.

old JDm engines had compressors designed for japanese environment and most of them failed in Pakistani heat. remedy is to change compressor. Go with suggestion of your AC person otherwise he wont take responsibility of his work later on. By 1N maybe he means the comporessor which came with Toyota 1N diesel engine.

The issue is this piston type comes stock on 5AFE and 7AFE but our pathan brothers change these to weaker rottery type denso ones they are cheap and these aka 5 piston ones sell for good money.

A lot of other things also get changed like this. In some engines I saw 4 2 1 headers coming stock they were changed and will be sold later at a better price they call it sports wala exhaust :p.

They will open gears and see if the pressure plate/clutch plate is in good condition tht will be replaced with a weaker one this one will be sold later at a good price. Inner axles come stock with engine they will also be removed and local ones will be installed, Iridium plugs will be removed, Good Looking Denso air filter will be replaced with desi, Original engine foundation which comes fitted with engine will be removed and desi rubber foundation will be installed and the List goes on :p.

Any A/C tech takes no responsibility anyway - even if parts were bought from his shop. btw - the denso 10 cylinder compressor (aka 5 piston) is pretty robust. The reason A/C techs want to throw it out is to make MONEY on parts sitting on their shelves. If they show you head pressure graphs - match it with ambient temperature, then measure vent temperature and work thereon, Sometimes a bad expansion valve causes the compressor to look weak on the gauges. And in a country like Pakistan where businesses have no check and balance laws - A/C shops can loot money from their customers. I have seen countless cases of such happenings, specially in Karachi.
