    Default Altis 2009 power fluctuation

    Hello,

I have a 2009 1.8 Auto Altis which has developed a problem in the past couple of months. Sometimes while I'm driving the car seems to hesitate/fluctuate. The RPM meter starts fluctuating and for those moments I have lost power. And then seconds later the RPM steadies and power is back. I can still hear the engine, and the noise seems perfectly smooth which leads me to believe that it may be some sort of electrical problem. This keeps repeating itself randomly without any warning, and in some cases I can no longer mantain even 30-40km/hr speeds because of the constant fluctuations. There are no check engine lights. The problem seems to happen more frequently the more aggressively I drive, or on a longer drive.

I have taken it to Toyota and they haven't been able to diagnose the problem. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Ignition switch. i had similar problem with my Honda Accord 5 years back. Took it to the mechanic, and after inspection i was told that the ignition switch has worn out, so need that to be replaced. After replacing that, i was all good.

You should better get it checked by authorised toyota dealers.

I have had it checked by Toyota. They have not been able to help me. Plugs and cable have been checked as well.

@thekonsultant; Ignition switch..once the car has started does it still have a role to play?

Thanks for the advice, appreciate it!

look like current leakage from the rubber at the bottom of coils which holds the plug. Check those rubber for minute hairline cracks.
The symptoms which u described were there in my brother's car and mechanic isolated the problem by slightly pulling out each coil from the plug chamber. On each pull out the car started vibrating like anything but on one coil car didn't show any vibrations and mechanic put it out completely for inspection and there it was the rubber which is attached to the bottom of coil and holds the head of the plug was having a hairline crack which was leaking current. Checked from toyota , that small rubber was for 1500 PKR but then we got a kabli rubber from shoba market for 300 rupees and car was back to normal.

The main symptoms of that car were.
    > Erratic fluctuation of rpm esp when cold started
    > A slight delay in vehicle's response when throttle was pressed .

PS I don't know if it can be applied on your car or not as the car I had experienced with was a 1.3L 2012 GLI and yours is an altis.
My dear ALLAH when I loose hope, help me to remember that Your love is greater than my disappointment and Your plans for my life are better than my Dreams.
