Lightbulb Everything about Toyota Corolla 2.0 D

    Hi & Asalaam-O-Alykum Pakwheelers!

I recently purchased a Corolla 2.0D SE 2007 as a test case to see how it goes with diesels, given
the era of cheap fuel crisis we are going through in Pakistan. Since I am new to diesel cars,
I need your expert advice on keeping my car tuned-up for performance and comfort.
I searched for a similar thread on this topic but couldn't find one, so I thought why not start one.

    Quick Info:
    1. It's a 2007 2.0D SE
    2. 60,000 kms done on december,12 mostly in Karachi,
    3. Fuel average roughly 15+ on city use only, which I am looking forward to improve.

My intended use is intra-city approximately 300-400 kms/week and 4/5 long roundtrips (800 kms)
in a year. My previous ride was a brand new Suzuki ALTO VXR CNG , 2006.

    To start with....
    a. I have this problem of blue smoke on cold engine.
    b. How to improve fuel average
    c. I need info on credible maintenance workshops in Islamabad.

I would need you advice on maintenance, lubes, performance and about anything you think is worth mentioning.
Please be as generous as you can and give me the very best of your knowledge and experience.
Please divide your answers in categories to help me find specific details easily.

help me help everyone....... thanks / shukriya

there are quite a number of threads for this query... use the search function or let google search it by using the string of site:pakwheels.com "your search"

For beginners, the engine requires similar maintenance like a petrol one, check and adjust valve clearances, check and adjust the injection timing everytime the timing belt is removed/replaced - it is done with a dial gauge and adapter.

valve seals along with cam and crank seals and also the water pump is recommended to be changed out on every timing belt job - it is very easy at that time as everything is open and infront of you. Always use proper coolant in this engine (toyota pink/red or a BASF G-05 formula) cut with distilled water at 50% conc.

Ensure the engine gets to normal temperature (thermostat in place) before you ask for any work from it.

It's a releif to finally get some responses. Here are more queries:

    1. Anyone here can provide me an Owner's Manual for 2.0D. I feel I need a
little orientation of the diesel engine as well.
    2. I feel some sound + impact on steering/front wheels, while passing horizontally broken areas on road. May be it's something related to the steering assembly. Is it the joints or something else down there that is lose?
